“just improvise!” “just make something up!”
you can study all the scales and practice all you want, but I keep thinking about this where the melodies from, what “comes up” to play.
there’s no amount of studying that can get you there.
I went to a jazz piano bar on Monday and ended up playing at their community jam session. I asked the guy on the trumpet what key we were in. He said: G mixolydian 🥴
girl… i haven’t practiced all my scales to remember that!!!
I just nodded, smiled, and pretended to know what I was doing.
I stumbled at first, but something came out!!! I played a solo for a few seconds.
how? i don’t know.
what i do know is that i can hear the melody “in my head” sometimes. just have to transfer it to my fingers.
well, i’ll go back to practicing all the mixolydian scales byeeeeee
