Northern League Announces Deandre Gilmore as New Manager for the Hammond Southland Vikings

[Whiting, Indiana] – The Northern League is pleased to announce the appointment of Deandre Gilmore as the new manager for the Hammond Vikings baseball club, effective for the 2025 season.
Deandre Gilmore, a 30-year-old native of Hammond, Indiana, brings a wealth of experience and passion to his new role. He is currently the Head Baseball Coach at Prairie State College in Chicago Heights Illinois. Gilmore has recent managerial stints with the Chicago American Giants of the Northern League and has also been at the helm of the Minutemen and the Panthers baseball clubs. In 2024 he was an assistant coach of the Northwest Indiana Oilmen Baseball Club. His tenure has been marked by a deep understanding of the game and a commitment to developing young talent.

"Deandre's experience, energy, and dedication to the sport make him an ideal fit for the Hammond Southland Vikings," said Don Popravak, Commissioner of the Northern League. "We are confident that his leadership will be instrumental in driving the team's success in the upcoming season."

Gilmore's managerial career has been highlighted by his ability to motivate and inspire his players, as well as his strategic approach to the game. His involvement in the Northern League has included managing the Minutemen, where he was also recognized as an assistant coach for the 2023 All-Star Game.

"I am thrilled to join the Hammond Southland Vikings and look forward to working with the talented players and staff," said Deandre Gilmore. "My goal is to build a competitive team that will make our fans proud and contribute to the rich tradition of baseball in the Northern League."

The Hammond Southland Vikings are eager to begin the 2025 season under Gilmore's leadership and are confident that his expertise will lead to a successful and exciting year.
