If you don’t know Team GorillaNerds, here’s the important part:
We are not fast. We are not a podium team.
We are not the team people look at and say, “Those guys are absolutely flying.”
We’re more likely to inspire:
“Are they… okay?”
Our specialty is suffering.
We spend most races somewhere between this is hard and this was an objectively terrible idea.
The legs stop cooperating. The brain stops doing math. The food stops tasting like food. Every hill looks personal. Every kilometer feels suspiciously longer than the one before it.
And eventually we reach that magical adventure racing moment where you dig deep, searching for another gear…
…and discover there are no more gears.
So you downshift into something best described as aggressive survival and keep moving anyway.
That’s pretty much the GorillaNerds philosophy.
We aren’t trying to prove we’re the fastest people out there.
We’re trying to prove that when things get miserable, uncomfortable, exhausting and downright stupid…
we’re still going to be there.
Maybe slowly.
Possibly complaining.
Definitely eating something questionable.
But moving.
And somewhere along the way, finishing stops being about speed and starts being about grit.
No matter how bad it gets, we believe we are going to finish.
Not because we feel good.
Not because we’re having a great race.
Not because there’s anything left in the tank.
But because quitting simply isn’t part of the plan.
If we have to walk, we walk.
If we have to crawl, we crawl.
If we have to take five minutes, collect ourselves, fight back tears, eat something terrible, and then start moving again…
we start moving again.
We embrace the misery and face our demons. We break ourselves down to the most fundamental version of who we are. There are tears. There are spiritual moments. There are moments when the race strips away every excuse, every comfort, and every bit of bu****it and leaves you with one question:
Are you going to keep going?
For us, the answer is always the same.
Yes.
We’ll show up, embrace the suck, reach deep when there’s nothing left, laugh at how terrible everything has become, and keep moving until somebody tells us we’re done.
Because when we start something, we intend to finish it.
It may not be pretty.
It may not be fast.
It may involve a truly unreasonable amount of suffering.
But we’ll get there.
That’s our kind of racing.

Team GorillaNerds
Not fast. Just incredibly difficult to make quit.
