CHESTERTON, INDIANA – Nine teams recently completed the fall fifth and sixth grade season, culminating in two highly competitive championship games on Monday, October 17th at the Courts of NWI.
The 6th Grade Red Division first round action matched The Hobart Blaze against Team Chesterton, with Chesterton eventually winning. The second playoff game was a highly contested game between the Courts Flemming and Portage 6th grade teams. Portage overtook Courts Flemming by a narrow margin.
The Red Division’s championship game had Chesterton hosting Portage on the Black Court. The Six graders showed skills and strategies learned during the season including three point shots, quick passing and heavy defense in a tough rivalry. These two well matched teams ended with a Chesterton victory of 38-32.
On the same evening, the 5th Grade Boys Blue Division competed to earn a spot in the championship game. Portage 5th overtook the Hawks in the early playoff game. This was followed by the Washington Township team winning against the Hobart Invaders.
The Blue Division’s championship game gained much attention as it remained neck and neck throughout the entire game. Only after some well executed free throw shots did the Washington Township team overtake Portage in overtime. The final score was 46 – 43.
The Courts of NWI starts the next 5th and 6th grade season on November 3rd. This season has a maximum of 24 teams and is practically sold out at this time.
