Did you know that coral reefs occupy less than 1% of the ocean floor, but support over 25% of all marine life? They aren’t just beautiful backdrops for our dives—they are the beating heart of our oceans. ❤️
As divers, we have a front-row seat to the magic of the underwater world, which means we also have a responsibility to protect it. Every piece of plastic we pick up, every drift dive where we practice perfect buoyancy, and every bottle of reef-safe sunscreen we use makes a massive difference.
🤿 3 Ways to Dive Blue & Protect Our Reefs:
▪️Check your sunscreen: Always opt for mineral-based, "reef-safe" sunscreens (look for Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide, and avoid Oxybenzone). 🧴
▪️Look, don't touch: Maintain excellent buoyancy to avoid accidentally kicking or touching delicate coral structures. Coral is a living animal, not a rock! 🪸
▪️Be a marine debris hero: Secure your gear so nothing drags, and safely collect any trash you spot on your safety stops. 🗑️
