On Tuesday at Willow Brook Park in New Britain, Cheshire sophomore track runner Jack Mooney won the boys' 2,000-meter steeplechase (6:33.43) for the first time. Junior Josh Lengyel picked up another top-10 finish, taking 9th in hammer throw (154 feet, 4 inches).
On Monday, junior Julia Mital secured eighth in the girls' 2,000-meter steeplechase (7:49.70).

In the Class L final on Saturday, Cheshire girls’ lacrosse (2nd seed, 16-6) came up just short 10-7 vs. Simsbury (1st seed, 20-1) at Fairfield University’s Rafferty Stadium.
In a rematch of last year's final, the Trojans jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter and led 8-3 at halftime. The Trojans took a 9-3 advantage to the fourth quarter, but the Rams staged a 3-0 run to cut the deficit to 9-6 with 4:33 left.
Simsbury held on to win the crown for the second straight year.

In the Class LL final on Saturday, Cheshire softball (1st seed, 27-0) won 2-0 over Southington (2nd seed, 23-4) at UConn’s Burrill Family Field. CHS repeated as state champions for the 1st time and joined the 2016 squad as the only teams to finish unbeaten in program history.
Cheshire also went 2-0 against the Blue Knights this year. The Rams have won 31 straight games overall.
Jenica Matos (27-0) pitched a 1-hit shutout with 15 strikeouts, yielding just a two-out single in the fifth inning. She received Class LL MVP for the first time.
Cheshire plated runs in the second and sixth innings. In the second, Blake Hall was hit by a pitch and Chloe Marciano came in to run for her. Addison Coffey delivered a double and Marciano came home on a fielder's choice and error on a bunt by Avery Miramant.
In the sixth, Lyla Blair hit a leadoff single. After coming in to run, Celeste Elliot took second on a sacrifice bunt by Avery Radford and scored on an RBI double by Olivia Rydzy.

In the Class L semifinals on Thursday, Cheshire boys' lacrosse (3rd seed, 13-8) came up just short 11-9 vs. Guilford (2nd seed, 16-4) at the University of Hartford.
CHS went up 2-0 and 4-2. Guilford put in four goals to go ahead 6-4 and led 6-5 at halftime.
Guilford took leads of 7-5 and 9-7, but Cheshire rallied to tie them twice. In the fourth quarter, the Grizzlies put in the last two goals to get a 1-1 split of the season series.

In the Class L semifinals, Cheshire girls' lacrosse (2nd seed, 16-5) earned their eighth straight win, 13-11, over Guilford (3rd, 14-5) at Brookfield. CHS went 2-1 in their season series.
The Grizzlies used 4-0 runs to tie CHS at 5-5 and 9-9, but senior tri-captain Tylie Lawless put in two goals and senior tri-captain Tema Caplan also scored in a 3-0 spurt (12-9) that put the Rams ahead to stay in the fourth quarter.
Lawless and Caplan led CHS with five and four goals, respectively. Senior goalkeeper Georgiana Sheehan anchored the defense with seven saves.
Head Coach Dan Warburton picked up his 350th victory at CHS.
For the Class LL semifinals, Cheshire softball (1st seed, 26-0) outlasted Darien (4th seed, 21-4) to win 1-0 at West Haven. The game was scoreless until with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 12th inning, senior Ava Pearson drove in sophomore Olivia Rydzy (walk) with a two-out RBI single.
In a pitcher's duel with Darien junior Vivian Knott, senior Jenica Matos (26-0) earned a two-hit shutout with 26 strikeouts (career-best) and seven walks, as the Rams stayed unbeaten.

In the Division I Championship on Monday, Cheshire boys' golf took second place (302) to Xavier (293) at Tallwood Country Club in Hebron. Senior Brandon DeWitt and sophomore Levi Haskes led CHS with a 75 each.
CHS girls' golf took 12th (407) in the D-II Championship at Tashua Knolls Golf Course in Trumbull. Senior captain Piper Dooling (95) and junior Lyla Dykeman (97) paced Cheshire.
CHS tennis wrapped up the Connecticut Invitational Tournament in West Hartford. For girls' doubles at Conard, seniors Ava DiCicco and Brianna Hawkins (1-1) picked up a 6-2, 3-6, 10-5 victory.
While coming up just short 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-10 in boys' singles at Conard, junior Mark Laskin earned All-State for having reached the Round of 16.

In the Class L quarterfinals on Saturday, Cheshire boys' lacrosse (3rd seed, 13-7) won 8-3 over Newtown (6th seed, 14-6). CHS didn't trail after going up 5-0 to start the contest.
Senior Richie Muli earned a hat trick and freshman Drew Rauch put in 2 goals. Senior Cosimo Botti and sophomore Will Wable had a goal and 2 assists each, while senior JC Sutherland added a goal.
Junior goalkeeper Eric Gorman made 8 saves.
For outdoor track and field, Cheshire boys and girls also competed in the State Open at New Britain's Willow Brook Park.
