Celebrating the Championship 🏆

Whaler Nation, join us in sending a massive congratulations to alumni Kyle Watson!

​Kyle just wrapped up an unbelievable season overseas, putting up massive numbers (58 points in 47 games!) and hoisting the hardware as a Champion in the NIHL with the Sheffield Steeldogs.

​From lighting it up in the blue and green to dominating across the pond, we couldn't be prouder to watch his journey. Once a Whaler, always a Whaler!

​The Next Chapter for Watty? EIHL Bound! The journey continues!

​Huge news out of the UK: Kyle has officially signed with the Fife Flyers for the upcoming 2026-27 season, making the jump to the EIHL!

​Watching our alumni climb the professional ranks and reach the highest level of hockey in the UK is exactly what this program is about. We know you're going to absolutely tear it up in Scotland, Kyle.

Whaler Spotlight: From the Coast Guard to Finland! 🐋🇺🇸🇫🇮

​Once a Whaler, always a Whaler! Derek Klein started his youth and junior hockey career right here in Hampton Roads. After coming up through our 18U A program, Derek made the jump to our USPHL Elite and Premier junior teams, putting in the work and laying the foundation for what was to come.

​Following his junior career, Derek answered a different call to service. He spent 4 honorable years in the U.S. Coast Guard, achieving the rank of Boatswain's Mate Third Class (E-4). After wrapping up his military service last year, BM3 Klein is officially laced up and ready for his next major hockey adventure.

​Derek is heading overseas to Europe for the upcoming 2026-27 season! He has officially signed to play in the Finnish II-divisioona (Division 2) with JPK (Järviseudun Pallokerho).

​We couldn't be prouder to see a Whalers alumnus take his talents to the international stage after serving his country with distinction. Please join us in thanking Derek for his service and wishing him the absolute best of luck in Finland!

🏆 HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE BELT STATUS! Whalers Alumni Andrew "Big Country" Keras takes gold in the cage! 🏆

​Huge congratulations to former Whaler Andrew Keras, who just captured the COGA Amateur Heavyweight Title Belt (265 lbs) this past weekend at COGA 92! 🐋👊

​In a grueling, 5-round absolute war, Andrew dug deep, kept his perfect undefeated streak intact, and walked away with the 265 lb strap via a dominant decision victory.

​Whaler Nation knows Andrew’s blueprint. When he wore the green and blue, he was affectionately known as "Big Country"—the definition of absolute toughness, a fearless enforcer who protected his teammates, commanded respect on the ice, and outworked everyone in the room. That trademark Whaler grit and relentless work ethic are exactly what carried him through 25 minutes in the cage to capture that heavyweight title belt.

​What’s next for the Champ?
Andrew made it clear post-fight: he’s looking to get a few more amateur bouts under his belt to completely clear out the 265 lb division before making the jump to turn Professional.

​We couldn’t be prouder to watch "Big Country" dominate combat sports the exact same way he played the game—with heart, toughness, and an unstoppable drive.

​Huge congratulations are in order for Hampton Roads Whalers alumnus Sam Holy and the Binghamton Black Bears on capturing the Federal Prospects Hockey League Commissioner’s Cup Championship! 🐻🏒

​A massive shoutout to the Black Bears on securing an incredible three straight championship dynasty 👑, and an even bigger congrats to Sam on hoisting his very first pro championship trophy! 🥇
