Patapeake Sport Fencing

Patapeake Sport Fencing Patapeake Sport Fencing operates in Calvert County, Maryland, providing youth and adults opportunities to participate in the Olympic sport of fencing.

Operating in Calvert County, MD, via the Calvert County Parks and Recreation system, Patapeake Sport Fencing offers free classes to youth and adults to teach the Olympic sport of fencing. Students learn in a group setting with supervised instruction to learn basic and intermediate fencing techniques, and are provided opportunities to test their skills against their peers. The class lasts approxima

tely 1 hour, with some warm-up activity at the beginning and the last segment of the class allowing for one-on-one instruction or supervised fencing with other participants. We do ask that all students come to the class dressed in comfortable clothing, wearing long pants or sweats, as well as closed-toe shoes. Actual safety equipment is provided free of charge. This ensures that participants are appropriately protected during the class.

Good morning everyone! Please note that today marks the start of the summer session. Registration is open for the session, so please take the opportunity to renew as appropriate.

We will also be transitioning upstairs on Thursday nights at some point, as the baton/twirling classes will be taking the main gym. (Hopefully we'll be in Room B and won't have to worry about the sun in everyone's eyes.)

Good afternoon everyone! We're coming up on the end of the spring session and the summer session that starts in June is open for registration.

I've also confirmed that the Northeast Community Center is closed for maintenance from May 22nd until May 26th. While we will have fencing the evening of the 21st, there will be no fencing on the 23rd.

If you normally attend the Saturday class, please consider yourself invited to that week's Thursday class.

Good evening everyone! Registration has opened up for the summer fencing session.

There is a misprint in the flyers that Parks and Recreation mailed out. Online it is listed correctly as "8 to 99". The printed flyer inaccurately has it as "18+".

I apologize the misprint; I checked what I submitted, but the person proofing the printed version didn't catch that.

Good evening everyone! As a gentle reminder, the spring session has started this week for fencing classes.

If you've not signed up for the new session, please take a moment to register for either the Thursday or Saturday class via the Parks and Recreation portal at: https://calvertcounty.perfectmind.com

Good afternoon everyone! I've been keeping an eye on weather and road conditions, as well as touching base with the staff at the Northeast Community Center. The sun is out at least, helping with road crews clear and otherwise improve road conditions. So things are beginning to look a bit better than "passable" and more like "reasonable", but conditions aren't still great. Which goes to whether you may find driving conditions to be "safe".

And I don't mean the trip to fencing, but rather than trip home after fencing when the sun has been down for 3+ hours and refreezing is taking place. If that's not "safe" for you, then I strongly suggest staying home and enjoying some warmth indoors.

But absent a significant event between now and when I need to leave for NECC, I plan on having class tonight. Likely Saturday as well, presuming the weather at least stays consistent between now and then.

Oh, and sign-up is open for the Spring session that starts in March. So please remember to renew for the next session via their online portal (https://calvertcounty.perfectmind.com/) or in person at NECC.

Good morning everyone! A couple of notes for the coming weeks.

Thanksgiving is on the 27th of November. There will be no class that day and there will be no class on the 29th of November. This means that bout week will be the 20th and 22nd for the respective Thursday and Saturday classes.

This is also the last month of the autumn session and the winter session starts the first week of December. Enrollment via Calvert County Parks and Recreation is now open, so please take a moment when you have a chance to sign up for the next session.

This is a solid read. Training is important and more training can be helpful, but there is a point of diminishing returns and overtraining can impede the benefits of training.

Real improvement happens over the long term. Especially those "I get it!" moments.

The fencer who has the wisdom to rest when needed and resist overtraining, performs the best in the long run.
