What a fantastic end to our 2024 fall season, between the divine weather, the colors of the changing seasons and these driven girls, it was a beautiful fun weekend of softball! When playing at this level, the competition is at times pretty fierce, however, we are equally qualified and competitive, and managed 2 wins and 2 not terrible losses. Saturday morning Eliza Tatro and the Dobbs sisters, Laney and Miley got right at it in the Player Combine where they and many other players from all around had the opportunity to showcase their skills to several college coaches. Directly following that, we played Wheatland Spikes Premier 18U and defeated them 8-6. Shout outs to Laney Dobbs for hitting a double and scoring 2 runs and Malia Welch who homered scoring another 2 runs! Later Saturday we played in the dome against Wildcats KB/KY 18U, sadly we just couldn't keep the pace and came in short with a 2-6 loss.
Sunday started off with us playing Illinois Sluggers 07 Premier 18U where in the 4th inning, bats on fire, the girls were able to score 4 runs! Ella Dannhorn doubled scoring 2 runs, Mali McMaster drew a walk scoring one run and Eliza Tatro singled scoring one run. Laney Dobbs earned the win, surrendering 4 hits and zero runs over 6 innings, striking out five and walking none, she and her catcher Eliza Tatro were quite a force! We had ZERO errors in the field and won 6-0! Outfield had some really awesome plays, Avarie Torres had a few great snags in right field and Eva Ostergard in left field! What a game girls!! Our final game Sunday we were up against the Wisconsin Bandits National Laabs 18U team and despite our best efforts we let our lead slip and we were defeated 2-1. The pitching was strong on both sides, Malia Welch was able to strike out 4 and only allow 2 runs, she and her catcher Mali McMaster worked hard! Miley Dobbs, Sammi Falnes, Eva Ostergard and Claire Kennedy each collected one hit for the team, we were holding them at 1-1 until the top of the 6th when the Bandits were able to score and take that small, but winning lead. All in all I would say we had a great weekend, and now everyone can enjoy some time off, at least from tournaments, and spend the winter conditioning and working on the things they each need to work on, so when we are back at the Louisville Slugger Stadium for the Snowman Slugfest Jan 24-27, we are all ready to go!
