As we look back on our first full season at the Cheney Aquatic Center, we are filled with gratitude for the incredible support of our community.
Because of you, and the generous individuals and businesses who invested in making the Aquatic Center accessible to our community, we welcomed more than 30,000 visitors this summer. More than 5,000 guests enjoyed free open swims, and through our partnership with the Cheney Outreach Center, many local families were also able to receive family passes, season passes, and swim lessons at no cost.
We are especially proud of all the firsts we celebrated this year: our first recreational swim team, first swim meet, first youth triathlon, and new special events like Teen Night, Adult Night, and Family Night. We are also incredibly proud of the 60 young people from our community who worked as lifeguards, cashiers, and maintenance staff and helped make the season possible.
And perhaps nothing captures the spirit of Cheney better than the generosity we witnessed throughout the year. One anonymous member of our community chose to make an extraordinary investment in the Aquatic Center and was given the opportunity to name the facility in recognition of their gift. Instead, they simply asked that it be recognized as “A Gift to the Cheney Community.” What a beautiful reflection of the heart behind this place and the people who call Cheney home.
But more than anything, we are grateful for the smiles, laughter, friendships, and sense of community we witnessed every day. The Aquatic Center has become so much more than a pool. It has become a place where our community comes together and memories are made.
Thank you, Cheney, from the bottom of our hearts, for making this summer so special. We can't wait to see even more families, friends, and neighbors at the pool for many summers to come!
