August 27, 2026

The smoke cleared just in time Thursday morning for the Lake Chelan Ladies Golf Club to enjoy a beautiful day on the course. Ten ladies were treated to blue skies and much-improved conditions for our Two Person Chapman competition.

Barb Rayburn and Carol Giffin made the most of the clear air, taking 1st Place with an impressive net team score of 69. Sherry Fisk and Tina Nyce finished close behind in 2nd Place with 71, while Carla Bailey and Maryjo Duruz claimed 3rd Place with 74.

There are no individual birdies in the Chapman format, but Carla Bailey found another way to make some money with a chip-in on Hole #15. Sherry Fisk grabbed the KP pot on Hole #7, landing her shot 10’7.5” from the pin.

Next week we return to Monthly Medal; Low Gross/Net by Division and Fewest Putts by Division.

DON’T FORGET! September brings a little more sleep. Our new tee time is 8:30 a.m., with check-in by 8:00 a.m.

Apparently Mother Nature finally checked the air-quality report and decided to give the Lake Chelan Ladies Golf Club a break.

Fourteen ladies took advantage of a welcome window of clearer air and managed to get in all 18 holes. We were happy to see the golf course again and even happier to breathe while playing it!

The competition was Medal Play, with Low Gross and Low Net of the Field along with Low Net by division.

The battle for Low Gross of the Field was a tie between April Talley and Linda Reister with rounds of 91.

Low Net of the Field went to Sherry Fisk with a 72, who apparently decided one prize wasn’t enough and also chipped in on Hole #8.

Division winners were:
Division 1: Cindi Smith took first with a net 78.
Division 2: Carla Bailey also posted a net 78 to take first.
Division 3: Nancy Parker claimed first with a 79, while Maryjo Duruz and Bernie Rayner tied for second with matching 80s.

There were no birdies this week, and no one managed to snag the KP, so that pot will continue to grow.

Next week brings a 2-Person Chapman by Divisions. In this format, both players drive, switch balls for their second shots, then choose the best ball and play alternate shots from there until the ball is safely — or eventually — in the hole. Teams will use the USGA 60/40 handicap formula.

Following play, members held a club meeting, and the Invitational Committee met as well. They are hard at work putting together all the details for our September 17th Ladies Invitational. It’s getting close! There’s still time to donate items for the Invitational raffle: bottles of wine, wine tastings, home goods, etc. Everything is appreciated!

Next week’s tee time is 8:00 a.m., so please check in by 7:30.

Dateline: London, England. 🇬🇧“Meanwhile, back in Chelan… April Talley has apparently won another Club Championship.”

Seventeen and Counting!
Despite the smoky skies keeping our field low in numbers but mighty in spirit, the Lake Chelan Ladies Golf Club completed its two-round Club Championship Tournament this week.

Once again, April Talley claimed the title of Club Champion, shooting a two-round gross total of 171. Even more impressive—this marks April’s 17th Club Championship! Seventeen! At this point, we may need to start engraving the trophy in advance. Congratulations, April, on an amazing accomplishment!

Linda Reister finished Runner-Up with the second Low Gross of the Field and a total of 193, while Tina Nyce captured Low Net of the Field with a terrific 153.

With Divisions 1 & 2 combined this year, Linda Hahn took Low Gross with a 212, and Nancy Parker claimed Low Gross in Division 3 with a 236.

A big thank you to all the ladies who signed up, braved the smoke and made this year’s championship happen. Small but mighty indeed—and congratulations to all our winners!

Sixteen ladies teed it up on Thursday for a four-person scramble, proving once again that golf is much easier when you have three teammates to blame… or thank!

Taking top honors with a 75 was the team of Linda Reister, Sherry Fisk, Maryjo Duruz, and Tina Nyce.

Finishing second with a 78 were April Talley, Elona Teague, Bernie Rayner, and Joni Dedo.

Tied for third at 79 were two teams: Team 1: Julie Allison, Linda Hahn, Carla Bailey and Loa Servis.

Team 2: Cindi Smith, Barb Rayburn, Nancy Parker, and Carol Giffin.

One golfer apparently decided she really wanted to win her dollar bills back this week! Sherry Fisk managed to dig deep collecting the KP on Hole #7 with a shot to 8 feet, 9 inches and making the putt for a birdie. She also got the lone chip-in on Hole #8. Sometimes the golf gods smile… and sometimes they simply hand you your own money back!

Next Thursday we’ll return to individual competition with Monthly Medal Play, featuring Low Gross, Low Net, and Fewest Putts.

The excitement also ramps up as Round #1 of the Club Championship gets underway. Good luck to everyone chasing this year’s title!

Tee time is 8:00 a.m. Please check in by 7:30 a.m.

Thick wildfire smoke settled over the course, turning our beautiful mountain views into a hazy backdrop and prompting seven players to cancel at the last minute. Those who braved the conditions were greeted with an eerie sky, a faint sun peeking through the smoke, and plenty of warmth. Despite the challenging air quality, the 10 determined golfers who teed it up made the best of the day and enjoyed some friendly competition.

This week’s game was Even and Odd, counting the net score of the even-numbered holes on the front nine and the odd-numbered holes on the back nine.

Division 1 & 2
1st Place: Sherry Fisk, 29.
2nd Place (tie): Linda Hahn, 30.
2nd Place (tie): Carla Bailey, 30.

Division 3
1st Place: Kris Hatherell, 33.
2nd Place: Joni Dedo, 35.

There were no birdies this week, proving that smoky air doesn’t necessarily help the ball fly any farther! Karen Erickson managed the day’s lone chip-in on Hole #16, and April Talley claimed KP on Hole #2 with an excellent shot to 16 feet, 8 inches.

Let’s all hope for blue skies and cleaner air next Thursday as we return to one of everyone’s favorite formats; a 4-person Scramble. Tee time is 8:00 a.m., so please check in by 7:30 a.m.

The smoke dissipated somewhat by the end and this photo may or may not have been “enhanced”.😜

It was another beautiful Thursday on the course as 14 ladies teed it up for our Medal Play competition, battling it out for Low Gross, Low Net of the Field, and Low Net by Division.

Leading the way was April Talley, who claimed Low Gross of the Field with a solid 89.

Maryjo Duruz continued her steady play, taking Low Net of the Field with an impressive 72.

Division winners included:
Division 1: Linda Reister, 77.
Division 2: Sherry Fisk, 75.
Division 3: Tina Nyce, 80. Second Place: Bernie Rayner, 82.

Sometimes golf can be a little stingy, and this week was one of those days! There were no birdies, no chip-ins, and no KP winners, which means both the Chip-in Pot and the KP Pot will continue to grow.

Next Thursday we’ll switch gears with one of our favorite thinking games, Even & Odd. Count only the even-numbered holes on the front nine and the odd-numbered holes on the back nine.

Reminder: Our tee time is 8:00 a.m. Please be checked in by 7:30 a.m.
