Two McCallie alumni are headed to college baseball’s biggest stage! Hudson Calhoun ’23 (Ole Miss) and Olin Johnson ’23 (North Carolina) will compete in the 2026 Men’s College World Series in Omaha, continuing a baseball journey that began at McCallie. As key contributors to the Blue Tornado’s 2022 state championship team, Hudson and Olin helped lead one of the most successful seasons in program history. Three years later, they have each developed into standout collegiate pitchers and will now represent McCallie on the national stage as they compete for a College World Series title. McCallie student-athletes continued a tradition of excellence by bringing home state titles in Cross Country, Crew, Soccer, Wrestling, Track & Field, and Lacrosse during the 2025-26 school year. A testament to the hard work, dedication, and brotherhood that define McCallie Athletics.

Cooper Gentle ’26 Named Academic All-American👏

McCallie senior Cooper Gentle was named an Academic All-American by the National High School Coaches Association, recognizing excellence in academics, athletics, and sportsmanship.

A Faculty Scholar and graduate with a 4.15+ GPA, Cooper excelled both in the classroom and as a student leader, serving as School Senate President and holding leadership roles in Student Council, TEPS, and the Council on Community and Brotherhood.

A four-year, three-sport standout in football, wrestling, and track & field, Cooper helped lead McCallie to state championships in all three sports. His accomplishments include:

2025 Tennessee Defensive Player of the Year (Football)
All-State honors in football, wrestling, and track & field
2026 State Heavyweight Wrestling Champion
5th place in the Shot Put at the 2026 State Meet
“Cooper competed at an elite level in three demanding sports while remaining one of the top scholars in his class,” said Athletic Director Kenny Sholl. “He is an amazing young man in every way.”

The McCallie School rowing team wrapped up a strong showing at the 2026 SRAA National Championship Regatta in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, highlighted by the Freshman Eight crew earning the first freshman rowing medal in program history with a bronze-medal finish. After advancing through a highly competitive field, the young Blue Tornado crew secured third place in the Grand Final with a dramatic late sprint, finishing just ahead of Montclair High School. McCallie’s Heavyweight Four also delivered an impressive performance, overcoming a seat malfunction during the semifinals that narrowly kept them out of the Grand Final before responding with a dominant victory in the Petite Final to secure seventh place nationally. McCallie additionally qualified a Varsity Quad and Junior Eight for nationals, continuing the program’s rise as one of the country’s premier scholastic rowing teams. Head Coach Sean McCourt praised the team’s resilience, brotherhood, and commitment, noting that the program has now reached SRAA grand finals for five consecutive years while continuing to build a nationally competitive legacy.
