Team Tennessee will be looking to make it two in a row over Team Georgia when the 23rd Annual Stump Martin Memorial Tennessee-Georgia All-Star Baseball Classic is played on Tuesday, June 16 on Jay Smith Field at Ridgeland High School.
The annual border battle pits some of the top recent graduates from southeast Tennessee against their counterparts from northwest Georgia in a nine-inning clash.
First pitch is slated for 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be $10 at the gate and $8 for senior citizens, while kids under 12 will get in for free.
Many noteworthy names have played in the Classic over the years, including one-time Major League pitcher Dakota Hudson (Sequatchie County), who was the game’s MVP back in 2013.
This will be the ninth time the Classic will be played at Ridgeland, which hosted the inaugural game in 2002 and hosted again in 2013, 2015, 2019, 2021, 2023, 2024 and 2025.
It was played for two years at Engel Stadium before a seven-year run at BellSouth Park/AT&T Field. McCallie, Ooltewah and Lookout Valley High Schools have also hosted the game over the years. The Classic was not played in 2020 or 2022.
The game is named in honor of its founder, the late Marvin "Stump" Martin, who served for many years as a sportswriter in the Tri-State Area and as host of "Stump On Sports Late Nite", which ran on cable TV in the north Georgia and Chattanooga market for nearly 35 years. Martin passed away in 2018.
Last year's Classic saw Tennessee limit Georgia to four hits in an 8-2 victory. Jacob McCurry (Whitwell) was named the overall MVP. He went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored, a stolen base and an RBI. He also struck out three batters in an inning on the mound.
Titus Torbett (Walker Valley) picked up Tennessee Player of the Game honors. He doubled and drew two walks at the plate, while also fanning two batters in two innings of hitless ball.
Georgia Player of the Game honors went to Devon Crawley (Calhoun), who drew a walk and scored once.
Team Tennessee leads the overall series, 17-5.
Here are the current rosters for the Stump Martin Memorial Tennessee-Georgia High School All-Star Baseball Classic, which is set for June 16 at Ridgeland High School. More players from Tennessee are expected to be added in the next few days.
