Headed down to Tennessee to race 70.3 Chattanooga last weekend with the boys! Got to meet , swim in the Tennessee river, bike through the country roads of Georgia, and then was cooked to well done while running along the riverfront.

Never underestimate the race - just when you think you have it all figured out, it finds a way to teach you a new lesson. I didn’t have a perfect race (there’s no such thing) but the goal isn’t to have a perfect race. It’s to find out who you are when the chips are down. You take the shots and keep going. And little by little you put together not a perfect race, but the best race you can have on the day.

To cap it off, I qualified for Worlds again in 2026 and got to share that experience with my parents. They’ve always supported my racing, so having them there to see it was something special! Onwards to Nice!

70.3 Chattanooga in 9 days! Threw together a little hype reel out of training footage from the last couple months.

It’s been a long offseason. Some days it seems like race day is just around the corner, and others it’s like you can’t remember the last time you got to suit up with the sun shining.

Last year was a big year for me, both as a coach and as an athlete. The goals for 2026 are equally big. When the moment of action is far off, sometimes it’s easy to get lost in the noise. There’s a clarity to racing that you don’t get anywhere else.

Proud coach moment: this was the highest TSS logged in a single activity by any of my athletes on TrainingPeaks to date.

Next up, a sprint triathlon in Florida and IRONMAN 70.3 Ohio in July. Stay tuned!

This is my favorite drill for new swimmers of all ages! Most of the issues that beginner swimmers face with freestyle revolve around breathing, and this drill helps them learn to balance their stroke through the breath.

Front quadrant freestyle means keeping your arms in front of your body for as long as possible.

When your arms stay forward longer, you create overlap in the stroke. That overlap improves balance, reduces unnecessary drag, and gives you a small glide each stroke cycle.

More balance → less wasted energy → better efficiency.

Efficiency is what makes you faster over distance.

Round one of this metabolic study done. Spent over three hours hooked up like this, getting my glucose/ketones/lactate taken every 20min. Definitely a test of mental and physical endurance! Can’t wait to see the data when it’s all said and done - scientific research like this is moving the boundaries of endurance sports.

Most beginner cyclists have a low natural pedaling cadence (~70s).

By doing spin up drills as part of your warmup, you can increase your cadence and learn to pedal more efficiently! 🚴

VO₂max isn’t just a number.
It’s a window into how your body actually performs under stress.

This test ramps up the workload until failure and shows:
✔️ How much oxygen you can use
✔️ Where your limits really are
✔️ What kind of training you need next

This one hurt… but the data was worth it. 😅
