Vegan Gumbo Recipe 🤤

Here’s how I did it:

Make rice.

Sauté onion, green bell pepper and celery in olive oil until translucent

Add mushrooms and optional okra

Let it cook for 7-10 minutes until mushrooms let most of their water out

Add 1 tbs of flour and cook until there is a golden brown paste on all vegetables

Add 1 large can or jar of tomatoes

Add 2 boxes or 4 cups of veggie broth

Add 2tsp cumin, 2tsp smoked paprika, 1tbs garlic salt, 1tbs garlic powder, 1tsp cayenne pepper, a few dashes of hot sauce

Add 1.5 cups of kidney or red beans

Pan fry your favorite vegan sausage. I used Felix roast Mexican chorizo.

Add fried okra at the end of your family doesn’t like the texture of okra in stew 🙄 or add okra twice!!!! 🙌🏽😈

Stuff cooked rice into a ramekin and plop it out into a bowl.

Top with fresh parsley and green onions.

Enjoy!!!!

Nature is the anecdote to modern life.

Rest (at least for me) is easier said than done. There are always projects I want to tackle, work to be done, laundry, family and a hundred other things scrolling through my brain on an endless loop. It’s exhausting.

🌿

Even when try to lay down to rest I am bugged by the list of logistics in my brain.

🌿

The best way I have found to settle that nagging feeling is being in nature. Nature absorbs my senses and jerks me into the present like nothing else.

🌿

The sounds of the wind, the smell of pine and decaying leaves, the taste of cold damp air and the feeling of a breeze on my face and warm sun on my back force my attention on the HERE AND NOW. And in the present, I feel peace. Now I can slow down and pet moss that looks especially luxurious. I notice mushrooms and make a mental note of what’s edible and what’s toxic. Did you know that reishi, and lions mane mushrooms grow all around North Georgia? Yeah! Literal medicine all around.

Join me for a day of movement in nature. Ground yourself in the forest and connect to your body in my movement class, “Breath. Move. Meditate”

At just $88 this is my most affordable event so far. It’s the one year anniversary of the very first Winter Retreat and I’m feeling called to change it up a bit after this one. Nature, movement, connection are the driving themes for the day. I want to take care of you, feed you plants and guide you through the movement and nature medicine that enrich my life.

When: Saturday, January 29th 10am-2pm
Where: Group Shelter #1 at Redtop Mountain State Park
Cost: $88 (link in bio)

Schedule:
10am Snacks and hot tea
10:30am Introductions
10:45am breathwork and a short guided meditation
11:00am Hike
12:30pm Yoga
2pm Close out

What to Bring:
- Yoga mat
- water bottle
- warm jacket or rain gear for the hike in case of wet weather
- anything that you need to be comfortable
* All ages and all levels are welcome! If you bring your child, make sure that they are old enough to be able to sit in meditation without disrupting others

To everyone that has supported my many endeavors, thank you. So many of you, in real life, have signed up for retreats, showed up to class in the grass, taken ballet classes with me at studios (or on my porch), taken class with me online, bought blankets that were left over from retreat gifts and supported whatever else I’m into as easily as you would buy a coffee. It means so much to me. Many of you have been supportive for over a decade. 🤯

If you know me you know that I show love by showing up. If I love you I’ll be there for you. It brings me joy to be a loyal friend. Y’all have reciprocated that energy over and over again and I will forever be grateful.

I have some new ideas and new offerings in mind for the upcoming year and I already know that the perfect people will be a part of it all. 🙏🏽❤️

Did you know that your heart emits an electromagnetic field that reaches 3 feet outside of our bodies in all directions? Don’t take my word for it, look it up!

Tap into that power. Let your energetic field intertwine with others.

This heart energy, this love is divine creativity literally bursting out of your body.

We will talk about this power and how it relates to spring, our heart chakra, Anahata and our relationships (with ourselves and others) on the Spring Retreat “Bloom” on Friday, April 9th.

If you aren’t sure if this is something that will benefit you ask yourself these questions:

- Do you have a problem saying no?
- Do you have difficulties trusting others?
- Do you have trouble with forgiveness?
- Do you use emotions to try and control people/situations?
- Are there emotional wounds form your past that still need healing?
- Do you have a pattern of self sabotage in relationships?

These can be signs that your heart chakra is in need of balance and healing. Just being open to reading this far is a sign you’re on the right track.

Dive deeper- spend a full day in the forest connected to nature and community and BLOOM 🌼
