Some more great words from Mr Lockhart.

FAITH & CHARACTER

The person standing across from you in the dojo isn't your enemy.

Even when you're sparring.

They're actually doing you a favor.

They're giving you someone to practice with.

Someone to test your technique.

Someone who exposes the openings you didn't know you had.

Someone who makes you better.

That's why respect matters so much in martial arts.

We bow before we begin.

We bow when we're finished.

And somewhere between those two bows, we may spend several minutes trying to punch and kick each other. 😄

But when it's over, we're still training partners.

There's something worth carrying outside the dojo in that.

Not everyone who challenges us is our enemy.

Sometimes they're the very people through whom we learn the most.

"Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." — Proverbs 27:17 KJV

Respect the people who help sharpen you.

Here is a good read. The best schools aren’t always 70 degrees. A clean school with caring knowledgeable instructors and a family atmosphere mean more than comfort. Mr Lockhart is correct.

Learn to Be Uncomfortable.

The heavy bag doesn't care that you're tired.

The mat doesn't care how long you've held a plank.

Your legs don't care that you have three more kicks to throw.

And the person standing across from you isn't going to stop a drill because you're frustrated.

There's value in that.

We're becoming increasingly good at removing discomfort from our lives.

Too hot? Turn down the thermostat.

Bored? Grab the phone.

Hungry? Have something delivered.
Tired? Quit.

But sometimes discomfort is exactly where we discover what we're capable of.

Martial arts gives us a safe place to practice being uncomfortable.

One more round.
One more repetition.
Try the technique again.
Get back up.

Not because suffering makes you tough.

Because discovering that discomfort doesn't control you changes something inside you.

And that lesson travels with you when you leave the mat.

In today's world, it seems like everyone is trying to build a brand.

A better image.

A bigger following.

More recognition.

There's nothing wrong with doing quality work and earning a good reputation.

But at Ricky Lockhart United Karate, we're aiming for something much bigger.

We don't want you to build a brand.

We want you to build a legacy.

A legacy isn't measured by how many people know your name.

It's measured by the lives you impact.

The child who learns confidence instead of fear.

The teenager who discovers discipline instead of excuses.

The parent who leads by example.

The grandparent who proves it's never too late to grow stronger.

For more than 52 years, we've watched students become leaders, husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, business owners, first responders, military personnel, and mentors.

The kicks and punches were only part of the journey.

Because brands come and go.

Legacies endure.

When you step onto our mats, you're not just learning karate.
