I know we’re all flooded with “go-fund me” like things these days. Unfortunately there’s not enough resources out there to get behind all the good causes, but I do think it’s important to support the ones that you hold near and dear to your heart 🪶 ❤️.

Projects like this one by the are great examples. This in particular was in the backyard of one of our favorite cover dog groups trial grounds. All held on county land, and the enjoyed by so many…bird dog lovers and more.

If you’re not a member of groups like RGS, think about becoming one. They depend on it.

I do believe that a pups genetics provide us with a canvas to paint on. I also think that the culture in which we being them up in leaves lasting impacts that are maybe bigger than we realize? Especially in very early and formative weeks and months. I recognize it all the time when I see puppies raised in varying environments. There’s a time and place for structure, and there’s a time and place for feral. Most importantly, there needs to be a balance.

Sometimes you just gotta learn to relax 😴.

Don’t be afraid to keep things simple.

Another snooze fest training vid that goes against everything social media specialists would recommend. Another boring reel over 3 minutes that IG warns will be served to a smaller audience due to its length. Ah hell…I’ve never been one to really care.

Notice how after I turn the camera just making a small change to our “location” in order to get a little more runway to work with throws the pup off. She can’t resist sniffing the ground more, requiring me to make a few more corrections. That’s the kind of stuff that is important. Understanding the why and then making the adjustments accordingly. There’s a reason we’re starting this on the gravel driveway rather than the grass. Set them up to succeed and then add difficulty incrementally.

I hope these help you understand that working and developing dogs can be a slow and steady process, not always made for entertainment purposes. I like it that way.

This is a little project I’ve been quietly working on. She’s a pup I bought about a 6 weeks ago who is now about 4.5 months old. It’s taken awhile for her to get to the point where I felt like she was ready to start working with me. She was a little unsure of herself in some situations. Very bold around other dogs, but hesitant around people. I decided to wait until now to ask much of anything from her other than to become a more confident little pup. The dog has to be in the right state of mind in order for them to learn.

This was about a 4 minute session in our driveway, using a flat collar and an adjustable leader leash. She’s gone through the process of being tied out on a stake line which taught her the idea of giving to pressure on her neck. I sped it up to 2x speed because I know most people will not have the patience to watch a boring video like this. But I also left some of it at real time so you get the idea of how slow and mundane this really is.

The best steps taken forward with our dogs are often very small and simple. Stay patient, it’s worth it in the end.

The pups keep getting bigger and so too does their personalities. Lil blacky likes to perch herself on the back of her mother during nap time. 😂😴

The 2026 Spring Handlers Workshop is behind us. I’m still exhausted, yet I find new energy inside me. Those are the feelings you will get when you’re hanging around the right people and places.

An enormous thank you to all those who were willing to share their time with us this past weekend. 14 dogs from 8 different states, one common goal: to improve.

An even bigger thanks to who make it possible.

I only hope that others find as much joy as I do while spending time with family, friends and dogs out of doors. Lillian’s first time handling, she had me beaming 🪶.

Thank you to all those involved with the Moose River Grouse Dog Club for putting on another incredible trial. This event is always a highlight of the spring and an amazing way to wrap up the season. This year in particular meant that much more to me.
