We are a small band of hikers designing and building gear as we explore mountain trails. Our gear is inspired by every hike when the trail dealt us unexpected conditions. Those are the tough days and long nights that fuel our campfire stories and drive our design process. Our experiences lead us to design and build strong, efficient, and minimalistic shelters for whatever mother nature throws our, or your, way. YAMA Mountain Gear was born from conversations on the Pacific Crest Trail in 2006. Since then, we’ve strived to get out on the trail as much as we can, bringing our experiences back to the design table. It’s important to us to make the most of our outdoor time, and we want to help you make the most of yours.

After more than a year in our YAMA Labs program, the DCF Bug Bivy is officially joining our standard lineup! At 5.1 oz (145g) and $224.75, it's 31% lighter than our silpoly version.

It uses a 0.67 oz DCF floor which we first tested in ~2017 on the PCT. We built a floor split down the middle: half 0.67 oz DCF and half the heavier 1 oz version we've previously used in production. A hiker carried it the length of the trail to help us compare the materials. The 1 oz side made it without issue. The 0.67 oz side did surprisingly well, making it roughly half to two-thirds of the way before needing some minor repairs to finish the trail. I share this because I'd rather you know what you're working with.

I recommend pairing it with a polycro footprint: 0.67 DCF is more durable than it feels, but a footprint extends its life.

THIS JUST IN: Cirriform SW ‘Light’ has hit the website!

Coming in 3 oz(85g) lighter than our standard version, it packs down smaller and is great for super streamlined trips. We made it with a brown Sil/Sil floor and .5 oz netting.

Our former teammate finished New Zealand's 3,000 km earlier this year using the 1P Swiftline, rain-fly only. We're so glad he had the chance to hike this trail and have been excited to hear about his experience! Here's the review he left on our site:

"I used the Swiftline throughout the entire Te Araroa trail in New Zealand on an exceptionally rainy year and it performed incredibly well. I encountered both the hardest rain and strongest winds while in this shelter and it held up great. I'm 6'1" and found the interior to be very roomy for me and my gear.

During windy or rainy nights it was easy to pitch the shelter low for more protection. During nice evenings I would pitch the tent with both flaps open wide to be able to see the stars. It was super easy to unroll and zip the flaps without having to exit the shelter or even sit up if the weather turned.

I also loved the material. It didn't stretch when it got wet and dried incredibly fast in the sun or slight breeze. I would absolutely recommend this shelter."
