Is your dance teacher always telling you to squeeze/engage your back? What does that even mean?!?!?!

TIP‼️ Think of your shoulder blades gently sliding down and wrapping onto your back, instead of pinching together. The back muscles should feel wide and supported — like your arms are connected through your lats and upper back. This helps keep the scapulae from ‘winging’ or sticking out, while creating a stronger, more elegant port de bras.
Strong and engaged lats IMPROVE your ability to balance and hold your posture for BETTER pirouettes!

Sophie Folts-Mercure is a you might just be envious of... until you know her. She's smart. Driven. And fought back from injury.

As a certified personal trainer for 5 years, Sophie received her Personal Training Certification from the National Academy of Sports Medicine in 2018 and became a NASM Certified Nutrition Coach in October 2020.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
She's helping us keep going.

Sophie's interest in fitness was sparked at 17 while on full scholarship to study at Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet in NYC. She rehabbed from ACL surgery and chronic hip flexor overuse with the help of regular physical therapy and a strict physical fitness routine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Injury is one thing. The recovery and work that follow test you beyond measure.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When Sophie moved back home to Charlotte 5 years later, her dance experience drew her organically into teaching multiple dance styles and dance conditioning. She's been a faculty member at Charlotte Ballet Academy for 7 years.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Through rehabbing that dance injury, Sophie met her second greatest passion — fitness. When not instructing at Charlotte Ballet, she's teaching early morning group fitness classes or 1:1 personal training sessions at Studio Fire SouthPark.

Trust us: you haven't trained until you've trained with a dancer.

Additionally, as someone that struggled with body image and a negative inner voice when she was a young dancer, helping women and girls find a healthy routine that makes them feel strong and confident is her sweet spot.
