In an era where many instructors were moving toward "flashy" competition styles, Soke Couch remained a pillar of Kamishin Ryu. His reputation as an instructor was built on:
• Practicality: Because of his background in law enforcement, he didn't teach fluff. If a technique didn't work in a high-stress environment, it didn't stay in the curriculum.
