R.L. Smith Disc Golf Course

R.L. Smith Disc Golf Course Robert L. Smith Park Disc Golf Course is one of the most physically demanding courses in town ! This park is named for Officer Robert L.

Smith, a Charlotte police officer slain in the line of duty. Officer Smith was shot and killed January 15, 1987 while responding to a call of someone shooting into a condominium complex at Spyglass Place in the Pawtuckett Community, part of the old Adam-3 District. The course has lots of elevation and lots of fast greens. Water comes into play on 8 holes. Beautiful hardwood forest and two rock gre

ens to keep it fun. Bring plenty to drink, it is a work out and worth the effort. Directions: Located on the West side of Charlotte and is easily gotten to by I-85.

Only took over a year to happen, but R.L Smith is closed. Baskets were pulled yesterday. Hoping to see discs flying around there again in a year+. Taking care of RL hasn't always been easy, but I'm proud to have been a part of it. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I have. Until next time!

Howdy again, quick update. CTP and I were out there this morning, did trash and some other stuff. We got a list together of what's needed and what's done.

Needing to be done:

Hole1: tee pad & path, grocery bag/small trash bag holder for
kiosk
Hole 2: mow between tee and hill, w**d whack hill
Hole 3: mow greem & w**d wack path to green
Hole 4: trim tee to fairway and some fairway
Hole 8: mow/w**d whack
Hole 18: mow/w**d whack green and hill behind green

Stuff we did today:

Trees cut:
Hole 6: some cut, needs clearing what's cut
Hole 7: cut and cleared
Hole 10: cut and cleared
Hole 13: cut and cleared

Please be careful with hole 6... we cut and dragged some, but there is still some needing to be cut, will get this another day. Enough is done so the route is cleared.

I wouldn't mind if some is also cleared while playing :) .

Might have to do a round little later today.

Howdy All !

So have some news on RL Smith construction stuff. Good news is, CTP heard from Charlotte Water last week, and they are not starting any construction for 5 months at the least, so looking like early spring before stuff happens. YAY

Also good news... CTP and myself are heading out there in the morning to make a list of what's what, cuz I heard today that there are some pretty big stuff down and needing attention.

Even better news... I'm hoping that after the priority list is made up, we can get some die hard RL lovers to help out in the cleaning up process. I'm sure there will be some massive w**d whacker stuff needed (hole 1 path to fairway, hole 2 fairway, hole 3 path to green and green) to say the least.

IF! you have the time and opportunity to do some work at RL, please shoot me a message, or post, or call if you have my number... any help will be most appreciated, and RL Smith DGC will also appreciate it!

Thanks and throw it down the middle :)

Got this in the mail... looks like is happening pretty soon.

Glad to see a lot of people love this course as much as I do... so an FYI. Talked with Charlotte water guy in charge of the RL Smith project, and as far as he could tell, construction has been pushed back until late fall, early 2018. Real glad to be able to communicate with someone at Charlotte Water!
