May is Water Safety Month πŸ’§β€”a time to raise awareness and help families build the skills that save lives.

Drowning is a leading cause of death for young children, and right here in Mecklenburg County, the need for water safety education is critical.

That’s why the YMCA is partnering with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation to host Water Safety Together on May 16.
Children ages 6–17 will:
πŸ’§ Practice safety skills in the water with swim instructors
🦺 Learn how to properly wear a life jacket
❀️ Experience a CPR demo (for older youth and teens)

Choose a 45-minute session at one of two locations:
πŸ“ Johnston YMCA (12:00 or 1:30 p.m.)
πŸ“ Double Oaks Family Aquatic Center (12:00 or 1:30 p.m.)

Summer will be here before you know it β€” now is the time to plan ahead for preschool.

At YMCA Preschool, children learn, grow, and build confidence with the support of dedicated early childhood educators who create a safe, nurturing environment every day.

Through play, exploration, and meaningful friendships, our programs help prepare children with the foundational skills they need before kindergarten.

Spots fill quickly for the 2026–2027 school year, so be sure to secure your child’s spot before summer gets busy.
