Many people think Type 1 Diabetes comes from eating too much sugar but that’s a myth!
💡 Type 1 is an autoimmune condition where the pancreas stops making insulin, the hormone that helps your body use sugar for energy.

💙 People with Type 1 must take insulin daily to survive.

🌟 Warrior Spotlight: Ja’Kai Taylor The Little MVP 💪🏽 Our T1D Superstar! 🌟

This Saturday marks Ja’Kai’s 4th Diaversary 💙 (diagnosed 10/18/21) and his journey is nothing short of amazing.

Shortly after turning 6, Ja’Kai’s mom took him to the doctor five times with all the signs of Type 1 Diabetes. Each time, she was brushed off until the fifth visit, when she demanded answers. His glucose was 1,000, and his A1C was so high the machine couldn’t read it (over 15.5).

Due to COVID and pneumonia restrictions, they were sent home no hospital bed, no supplies, no instructions. But what happened next is why we call him The Little MVP. 🏆

Since his diagnosis, Ja’Kai has become a Youth Ambassador for T1DToTheThird, designed his own Nike Doernbecher shoe that sold worldwide, and even saw one pair auctioned for $11,000 to support children’s hospitals! 👟💥 His shoe caught the attention of Nick Jonas and WWE’s Jey Uso, who proudly bought a pair! 🙌

Ja’Kai plays competitive soccer year-round, club basketball, and tackle football proving that diabetes doesn’t define him… it drives him. ⚡

💙 Join us in celebrating 4 years of strength, courage, and greatness for our Little MVP, Ja’Kai! Drop a 💪🏽 or 💙 in the comments to show love for this superstar!

Fact Friday:
Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) can make you feel shaky, dizzy, sweaty, or even confused — and it can happen fast!

🎃 With Halloween coming up, kids with Type 1 Diabetes can still join the fun — they just need to keep a few “treat-smart” habits in mind:
🍫 Always carry a quick sugar fix like glucose tabs or juice.
🕸️ Check levels before and after trick-or-treating.
💪🏽 Balance treats with fun — it’s not about missing out, it’s about staying safe and enjoying the night!

Because even on Halloween… life with Type 1 is more than a diagnosis.

👩🏽‍👦 Meet the authors behind Ballin’ With Diabetes!

Hi, I’m Tosha Miller — and this is Tyjon Robert McDonald, the real-life inspiration behind the story.

We wrote Ty’s First Halloween because we wanted kids with Type 1 Diabetes (and their families) to see themselves in a positive, fun story — full of courage, candy, and care. 🍬💙

Our message: you can still enjoy every moment — just “Stay Sweet, Stay Safe.”
