To provide a positive, inspiring, and safe environment to enhance the quality of basketball skills within the youth in our communities we serve through basketball IQ, fitness, competitive drive, sportsmanship, and Christian values. We believe coach must be a teacher. This is true at all levels of coaching. Most importantly, we will respect our athletes as dignified individuals. It may take more time to teach skills and routines to an athlete who has had no prior training. In addition to knowledge of coaching techniques and tactics, we will also show patience, understanding and insight when working with our athletes. We will breakdown all skill work into multiple progressions. You may see a basketball activity as having two basic steps. Our experienced coaches realize that some activities might be better communicated to athletes by breaking the drill into four or five fundamental points. We will keep instructions simple and repeat explanations as often as possible. Demonstrate each aspect of the skill activity. This helps the athlete understand "what" is expected. Instructions will have to be repeated often not only in a practice session, but from one session to the next. Skills from a previous session may have been forgotten. Attention spans of young athletes can be extremely short. Athletes will watch, but then quickly be given the opportunity to try the skill for themselves. We will show your athletes that basketball is fun. We will always show our athletes enthusiasm when coaching. Incorporate fun drills and games into the practice sessions. We will encourage our athletes by emphasizing what they have accomplished. However, continue to challenge them to improve and do more.
