Protect Black Women.
This phrase is not just something we should be seeing on social media, being yelled at a protest, or being used as a ‘buzz phrase’ to prove a person’s loyalty to black women.
It is a phrase that that is meant to bring enough awareness that it springs people into action in REAL LIFE.
Protect Black Women when you see unfair treatment at work.
Protect Black Women when you see her unique beauty being appropriated or made fun of for being different.
Protect Black Women when you see her in an uncomfortable situation with a man.
Protect Black Women when you see someone making an ignorant comment about the way she speaks or carries herself.
Protect Black Women when her intelligence and experience is being questioned.
Protect Black Women IN THE MOMENT. IN REAL LIFE. Take imperfect action. Black women are strong and resilient due to what we and our ancestors have gone through. But, we are not unbreakable.
What I see from the Oscar’s drama between Will Smith and Chris Rock is a black man protecting his black woman. Protecting his wife from the comment of a man who made love to a black women to create black daughters. Chris is VERY aware of how black women’s hair has been attacked and criticized in this white washed world. Whether Chris knew she had alopecia or not, that comment was clearly hurtful.
Real men have been fighting to defend their people since the beginning of time. And it will continue until the end of time whether you like it or not.
I can only hope that if I am ever faced with a man attacking me in any way, my future hubby would put him on the floor!
