GMSBC Athletics Alumni Spotlight - December

Amanda Tyson

Amanda is a legacy GMSBC Panther.
The daughter of Rev. Charles Tyson and Sister Jacqueline Tyson and Sister of Coach Brian Tyson, Amanda played for GMSBC as a Mite and Pee-Wee , where she was a key member on championship teams.

Amanda, a true student-athlete went on to play Varsity basketball for Ardrey Kell High School, where she was a 4 year letter winner . Amanda scored over 1,000 points in her high school career, was named Southwestern 4A offensive player of the year as a sophomore , named team MVP twice , and was also team captain for her Junior and Senior Seasons.

The next chapter of Amanda’s journey took her to New Haven , Connecticut.
There , Amanda was a student-athlete for the Yale University Bulldogs , continuing her excellent play on the basketball court and her commitment in the classroom. During her time at Yale , Amanda also worked as a Sales and Trading Analyst for Citigroup Incorporated in New York City as a Trainee with the SEO Career Program.

Upon graduating from Yale, Amanda continued her education at the Harvard University Business School, where she obtained her MBA and received high honors. We want to celebrate Amanda’s accomplishments on and off the court , and are proud of how she has and is continuing to represent GMSBC Athletics !

GMSBC Athletics Alumni Spotlight - November

Brandon Cherry

Brandon is a legacy GMSBC Panther.
The son of Coach Dwayne Cherry and Mrs. Antavia Cherry, Brandon competed for Greater Mt. Sinai for multiple seasons.
Brandon attended Charlotte Country Day School and was a 2021 graduate of Mallard Creek High School , where he was an honor roll student.

Brandon is currently a Senior , Marketing Major at Johnson & Wales University in Charlotte,NC. He has been a member of the J&W Wildcat Basketball team throughout his time at the University and we want to celebrate Brandon for his accomplishments on and off the court , while wishing him and the Wildcats a healthy and successful season!

GMSBC Athletics Alumni Spotlight - October

Jeremy Ingram

Jeremy is one of the most accomplished basketball players to come out of Charlotte, NC in the 2010’s.
He played multiple years with Greater Mt. Sinai under the coaching of Jessie Dozier, Miller Jamerson and the late Freddie Peay.
Following his time with GMSBC, he also played for Piedmont Middle School, winning multiple championships.
At the high school level, Jeremy was a State Champion at East Mecklenburg High School, being named SW 4A player of the year , selected for the 2010 NC East vs West All Star game and also a member of the 4A AP All-State Team.

Jeremy continued his career at North Carolina Central University, where he became one of the most prolific players in MEAC history.
While at NCCU, Jeremy received numerous awards and recognitions including:

2014 MEAC Player of the Year (First Team All-MEAC)
2014 MEAC Tournament Most Outstanding Performer
2014 First Team NABC Division I All-District 15
2014 Lou Henson All-American Team
2014 NCCSIA All-State Team (First Team)
2014 BoxToRow National HBCU Player of the Year
2014 MEAC Player of the Year
2013 All-MEAC (First team)
2013 BoxToRow All-American Team
2013 NCCSIA All-State Team (First Team)
2013 MEAC’s Most Valuable Player

Following his graduation from NCCU , Jeremy also played multiple seasons professionally overseas in Turkey and Argentina.

Jeremy is currently the Men’s Basketball Head Coach at Seventy-First High School in Fayetteville , NC. He has quickly made a name for himself coaching at the High School level, leading Seventy-First as they finished the 2023-24 season as NCHSSA 3A Basketball Runner Ups.
