For those fishing in the youth tournament at Golden Beach on Sunday, your bait (nightcrawlers and Fishbites) along with bobbers, hooks and sinkers were graciously donated by our bait supplier, Rocky's Bait Company. We also donated fresh cut squid to the event.

If you need fresh bait, combos, tackle or anything in between, please come by the shop. Open until 6:00pm today, 7:30am - 4:30pm tomorrow and opening at 7:30am on Sunday.

Southern Maryland Recreational Crabbing & Fishing Report

Happy Thursday! This past weekend was one of the best holiday weekends here at the shop. I want to say thank you to all of our newest customers as well as our regular weekend customers for purchasing your needed baits and tackle from our shop!

- Store Reports

1. Lugworms continue to be our top selling live bait for croaker and spot. With bloodworms continuing to be at outrageous prices, these lugs will land your catch quickly without breaking the bank. Over 330 dozen packs sold since May.

2. Fishbites bloodworm strips continue to be the top selling artificial bait (bloodworm alternative) to catch a variety of different species here in Southern Maryland. You can purchase 4 bags for the same price as a dozen live (non-guaranteed) bloodworms, use what you need and package the remainder up for another day. Just remember to zip-lock the bag tight!

3. Chesapeake Sabiki Rigs are the only legal sabiki rigs that can be used in Maryland. I have plenty in-stock. Tip them with lugworms or bloodworm alternative baits.

4. Our Pink Fury catfish bait has also been a top selling bait since we introduced it about four months ago. They've been hitting huge blue cats on the Patuxent above Benedict for months. Over 125 cups sold!

5. The Golden Beach youth fishing derby will be this Sunday at Long Beach. Make sure to check out the flyer I shared a few days ago for more information. Our wonderful bait supplier has graciously offered to donate live bait, bobbers and hooks to this event.

6. The Gilbert Run Youth Fishin' Buddies Derby will be held on October 10th. There is an online registration for this event on the Charles County Parks & Recreation website. We are a proud sponsor of this event twice a year and I thank Mr. Anthony Hancock (Park Manager) for allowing us to participate!

7. Not only do I sell crabbing and fishing bait, combos, tackle and everything in between, we now carry those viral Squishy Dumplings. Currently have some in-stock with the highly requested GRINCH Squishy on order and those should arrive the first week of October. The Grinch Squishys will be $9.99+ tax and limited to four (4) per customer. I will not be shipping these. Must pick up at the shop.

- Maryland DNR Report (Lower Bay, Patuxent & Potomac Rivers, Blue Crabs & Freshwater Fishing)

1. Anglers in the lower Bay are enjoying good fishing for striped bass in many locations. The lower Potomac and Patuxent rivers are proving to be excellent locations to cast jigs, and paddle tails along channel edges and shallower waters near points and creek mouths. Live-lining spot along the deeper channel edges remains a popular tactic in the lower Potomac and Patuxent rivers and select sites in the Bay where fish can be spotted suspended off the bottom with depth finders.

2. There are still some Spanish mackerel, but what remains most likely will not stick around for long. Anglers are finding them below Cedar Point and the Middle Grounds by trolling Drone and gold Clark spoons behind planers. Bluefish are still in play and can be found most anywhere from the shallower waters to out in the bay channels. The HS Buoy and near the Target Ship have proven to be good locations to find them.

3. Catch-and-release fishing for large red drum is still active near Cedar Point, Point Lookout, the Target Ship area, and the Middle Grounds. They can be spotted attacking schools of bait or located by slicks and depth finders. Jigging with large soft plastics is the most popular way to fish for them.

4. Fishing for a mix of spot and croaker is about as good as it can get this week. The spot are large and many of the croakers exceed the minimum size of 9 inches. Anglers are also seeing small speckled trout, kingfish, and northern blowfish in the mix.

5. Blue Crabs: Recreational crabbers will most likely be talking about the late 2026 crabbing season for quite a while. Catches of large crabs up to 8 inches and full baskets are plenty to talk about. Most of the best catches have been coming from 8-12 feet of water. The 20-foot depths that were noted for the extra-large crabs seem to have declined for some reason. Crabbers also are scooping up swimmers, and doublers on the surface and dock pilings.

6. Freshwater Fishing: N/A
