The wobble you see here is a red flag for future injury.

Last night’s session with SP highlighted exactly why performance training differs from showing up to the field with a bag of balls.

We started with a full check-in: how her body felt, energy levels, and a recap of the previous week. Then we broke down 30 minutes of game footage — what worked, what needed fixing, opponent tendencies, and how to be more effective against the upcoming schedule.

During the change-of-direction warmup, we corrected movement mechanics in real time:
• Drive the upper body with the step
• Absorb force through a strong, bent leg
• Maintain full foot-ground contact
The visible wobble in her cut is loss of control under load. That instability is a direct predictor of non-contact injury. We fixed it on the spot — because performance and injury prevention are one and the same.

Safe movement isn’t optional. It’s what separates players who last from those who don’t.

…then we worked with a ball.

Last training session of the winter with these two. They’ve put in some serious work this “offseason” in preparation for their senior seasons. Hope College committed, AP is out to break her school’s season scoring record while committed, SP is on pace to a career 100+ assists.

Training will continue through the high school season, but the intensity will shift focus to cleaning up technique, maintaining a healthy body, and reviewing game footage.

C’s last training session focused on receiving and playing the ball with pressure from behind. We’re working adopting a strong base, understanding how to shape the body to separate the defender, and how to maintain composure while battling for possession and space. We’ll be staying on this topic for a bit and introducing a few new stressors and techniques.

The day before heading to Canada for a scrimmage to kick off her spring season, C was working on cleaning up some of her footwork. Also, coming off of a minor ankle injury we were building up a bit of confidence in COD movements.

The last video was from her previous training session - C achieved her objective of striking a ball 50mph before her spring season started!

C netted the only goal for her team in a 1-1 draw.

A bit of action from the Gk’s this morning. 4 keepers, some of whom will be competing against each other during the upcoming spring season - yet, here we are improving together. We push each other. We support each other. We bond together. Because only a keeper knows just how isolating this position can be. We embrace the pressure and we do whatever it takes to get the W for our team knowing full well that others are likely going to get the spotlight.

Final rep of the session after nearly 30 minutes of pushing her peak intensity! SP is working on maintaining a quality touch while increasing her speed, power, and endurance - which we’re placing under the umbrella of “EXPLOSIVE BEHAVIORS”.

Create solutions for your team. Create problems for the opposition.

Putting on the gloves can feel isolating at times. Having a training group to sharpen skills, stay motivated, and push one another in a healthy and supportive environment remains one of the most effective ways to drive progress.

This group here has come a long way together in a short amount of time!

After some frustration earlier this week, C bounced back and delivered a strong, focused, and highly productive session.

It can be challenging for young players to expand their perspective and accept that this phase of their career is primarily about learning and long-term development. Sometimes you’ve got to pull them out of the moment and help them understand the longer timeline.
