As spring season comes into full swing, I’m looking to take on 15-20 head of new horses. I get a lot of messages this time of year, so if you’re someone looking for a farrier, here is what I send to prospective clients. Communication in this busy world is hard and I like to ensure the expectations of clients are met and I’m able to do the best job on every horse I climb under. Though I do try to check Facebook, the best way to reach me is always 502/396/4244
Happy trails!
Prospective new clients:
I strive to do the same quality of work on every horse I see. For this reason I do ask the following of clientele and like to give an idea of what you can expect from me.
- A clean, dry, flat, covered place to work. My main concern is avoiding cancellations due to weather and a safe environment for a timid horse. It doesn't mean we will always use it but it's an option when the weather or a horse requires it.
- The horses stand quietly and doesn't bite, kick, or invade my space. I love horses but focusing on hoofcare and not training is where I've chosen to put my energy. Not only does an unruly horse take away from the quality of work I can perform, it increases the chance of injury.
- All horses on my books are kept on a schedule. For most thats 6 to 8 weeks depending on the time of year and whether they are shod or trimmed. Performance horses and horses requiring corrective work may require a 4 to 5 week schedule.
-Horses are caught and ready at the appointment time. I take great pride in being on time, even early. Though I do occasionally have a horse have a bad day or traffic that puts me behind, I strive to not keep clients waiting. If I'm running more than 15 minutes behind I will give you a heads up. Dirt never hurt me, please present me with a dry horse. A dry muddy horse is dirty and not a big deal, a freshly washed muddy horse is a nightmare. Now I'm wet and trying to hold onto a very slick wet leg. Horses will dry incredibly fast, though i appreciate the thought, if im soon to arrive please forgo the bath.
- Payment is due at time of service. I offer many payment options for your convenience.
- I am currently a one man show. I reserve weekends and evenings for my family. I do my best to return messages in a timely manner but often wait until Monday on weekends, or the next day for late evening messages or calls. I have business hours from 730 to 5 Monday through Friday. If its been 24 hours and you haven't heard from me during this time, please feel free to contact me again. Sometimes I miss a message or quickly read it and dont get time to respond right away.
- I currently use a program made just for farriers for all scheduling and invoicing called iforgeahead. It will send text and email reminders as well as email all invoices.
-Any cancellations under 24 hours will be charged a minimum $50 dollars. Please keep in mind, I’m a mobile business. Last minute cancellations can almost never be filled, and result in me sitting and waiting to go to my next stop. I’ve almost always got a waiting list, if there’s a conflict, please let me know as soon as possible.
