SINGLETON TO CONTINUE BASEBALL CAREER AT OLNEY CENTRAL
Charlestown Baseball’s Cole Singleton was recently joined by family, coaches, teammates, and friends to sign his celebratory letter of intent to attend school and play baseball at Olney Central College.
Olney Central College, located in southeastern Illinois, provides students with an affordable pathway to both career success and continued higher education. As a member of the Illinois Eastern Community Colleges system, OCC offers associate degrees, technical certifications, workforce training programs, and university transfer opportunities across a wide range of academic fields. The college prides itself on providing a personalized educational experience through small class sizes, hands-on learning opportunities, and strong student support services.
Known as the Blue Knights, Olney Central College competes in the NJCAA Division I ranks and is a member of the Great Rivers Athletic Conference and Region 24. OCC's baseball program has established itself as one of the premier junior college programs in the region, regularly competing against strong competition throughout the Midwest while preparing student-athletes for opportunities at four-year colleges and universities. The Blue Knights emphasize both academic achievement and athletic development, helping student-athletes continue their careers at the next level while earning a quality education.
Singleton shared his sentiments on his choice to attend school and play at Olney Central with the Blue Knights and said,“I chose to continue my athletic career at Olney Central because it gives me the opportunity to keep playing the sport I love while also continuing my education. From the moment I connected with the coaches and saw the environment around the program, I felt like it was the right place for me to grow both as an athlete and as a person. I believe Olney Central will challenge me to work harder, and prove my skills, and compete at the next level while being surrounded by teammates who share the same goals and passion. Continuing my career there is a chance to represent my family, coaches, and hometown while creating memories and opportunities for my future.” Singleton, who joined the Pirates as a transfer this season, quickly made his impact felt by ranking second on the team in batting average, hits, and RBIs. On the mound, he was tied for the team lead in appearances and finished third in ERA while facing more batters than any other Pirate pitcher.
Charlestown Pirates baseball coach Brian Hester said: “Cole walked into our weight room during our winter workouts, and we had no idea the impact he would have on the Pirate Baseball program. Cole led our team in several offensive categories and was also an artist on the mound. No matter who we played, Cole wanted the ball on the mound to be able to go out and compete for the win. Cole will do great things at Olney Central. “
WPMQ, The Pirate Network congratulates Cole and wishes him a healthy and prosperous future as an Olney Central College Blue Knight.
