The Southern Appalachian Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) is the only trout species native to Tennessee. They are indigenous to high-elevation, cold-water streams, particularly in the Great Smoky Mountains. Other trout found in Tennessee, such as rainbow and brown trout, were introduced.
