I realize it’s a bit ironic to post a handstand video on social media while claiming to not be showing off. But hear me out.
Learn to handstand because it’s fun and it feels good for your brain.
Handbalancing puts you in a state of focus and awareness that keeps you grounded in the moment. There’s no room to ruminate about your bad day at work, your ex, or your to-do list. There is only balance, breath, and alignment. When anxious thoughts take over my brain, an hour of handstand practice brings me back to the moment.
It’s also a darn good time. I notice that anytime there are kids around where I am practicing, they almost always start trying to handstand too. Because it’s innately fun. You probably did it when you were a kid. Then somewhere along the line you started worrying what people thought of you and maybe you started taking things a little too seriously. Maybe you’re interested in learning to handstand but feel like you’re not strong enough, or that you’ll look dumb in the gym.
Let yourself try. Let go of what people think of you. They secretly want to stand on their hands, too.
You can build the strength and the skill with practice. Don’t know where to start? I offer in-person and virtual coaching to help you on your handstand journey. There are plenty of tutorials online, and I encourage you to watch as many as you can. But working with a coach is the most efficient way to reach your goals.
