As Charleston Community Sailing wrapped up its final Board meeting of the year last week, we reflected on the growth, progress, and community support that continue to move our mission forward.⛵️

We’re incredibly grateful for our dedicated Board members, whose leadership, passion, and commitment help make sailing more accessible to our community. Together, we’re building momentum for an exciting year ahead!

With the Sailing Center at Safe Harbor on the horizon, 2027 promises new opportunities to welcome more students to the water, expand our programs, and create a permanent home for learning, connection, and a shared love of sailing.

Our Board is excited about what’s to come, and we can’t wait to share the next chapter with all of you!

The next chapter of Charleston Community Sailing is taking shape, and we want YOU to be part of it!

For more than 20 years, Charleston Community Sailing has worked to make sailing accessible to everyone. Now, we’re excited to take the next step: creating a permanent home for CCS and expanding access to Charleston’s waterfront.

Our new Sailing Center will provide space for youth and adult programs, sailing instruction, racing, community events, and more—creating greater access, opportunity, and a lasting home for the sport we love.

The project is now in the final stages of permitting, and we’re actively raising the funds needed to make this vision a reality.

CCS is excited to welcome back our local high school sailors for the fall season!

We’re pleased to continue our team series with Bishop England High School. This year, the team welcomes new head coach Jack Sutton, who brings fresh leadership and excitement to the program.

Meet Tillman — one of CCS' Level 1 instructors, who grew up participating in our programs.

“I first remember showing up at CCS not knowing the first thing about sailing. I was a 6th grader, unsure of myself, excited to learn but with no idea what I was walking into. Immediately, my instructor, Henry, made sure I never felt like an outsider. He welcomed me in, taught me the basics and made the water feel like a place I belonged instead of something I had to figure out alone.

What started as a fun summer activity turned into a way to make meaningful friendships, gave me a new wave of confidence, and provided a second home on the water. Before I knew it, I wasn’t just a camper anymore — I was an instructor, passing along the same welcome Henry once gave me.

What I’m most grateful for at CCS is that they don’t just teach you to sail; they welcome you into a community that helps you grow and discover new opportunities.”
