My first time flyfishing for redfish. Flyfishing is hard enough but trying to do it from a kayak is whole other level of difficult. Had loads of fun managed to land 2 fish and lost a few others

Traveled 600 miles from Charleston to Dauphin Island to fish the Alabama Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo. This was my first ever fishing tournament and boy did it live up to it. I fished hard for 3 days, getting up at 1:30am to catch fresh bait then fishing all day long and going to bed at 11pm to do it all over again. I only managed to catch 3 fish across the whole tournament but when you fish big baits your not going to catch as many. We could have fished shrimp and limited out but this was a tournament and we wanted the big ones. What I did catch though was definitely a case of quality over quantity. The first trout I caught was my biggest trout ever at just a hair under 22" and weighing in at 3.13lbs good enough for a 3rd place finish. The 2nd fish was a 19.5in trout and came with some jewelry, the fish had been tagged easier this year about a couple hundred yards away from where I caught it. I got a free t-shirt and coozie for it. On the last day I managed a decent sized flounder that deserved a nice grease bath. All in all it was a fun trip and will have to try again someday
