We will be shining the spot light on a different league member every week so that our fans can get to know the people beneath the helmets! This week we're looking at number 91, Big Al!

1. What’s your derby name and number, and why did you pick them?
Big Al aka Nightmoves #91. I chose Big Al because I thought it was a funny pun due to my size. How Nightmoves came along is a pretty long hilarious story and yes it definitely has everything to do with the song.


2. When did you join the roller derby community? How long have you skated for CVRG/JCRG?
About 2 ½ years ago. I’ve been with CVRG/JCRG about 9 months but feels like so much longer and I love it.


3. Did you have any skating experience before derby?
Not really I skated a bit when I was a kid but that’s about it.


4. What drew you to roller derby?
I went to a practice with my old league and fell in love with the sport. Unfortunately I had a falling out with my old league and finally found my way to CVRG/JCRG.


5. What is the best thing about being a member of the Chemical Valley League?
The amazing people on the team, the coaches, the atmosphere. We are more than just team mates we are family. We always have each other’s backs and support each other on and off the track. We push each other to reach our fullest potential. I mean what else could you ask for when it comes to being on a team.


6. What do you do outside derby? Career? Hobbies?
I’m a stay at home mom so I take care of my son and house work. Derby is my hobby along with my passion I consider myself lucky for that.


7. Have you ever been injured playing derby? What was your most gnarly injury?
I’ve never been seriously injured playing derby (knock on wood).


8. Who is your derby idol?
Man I have many of them. Satans little helper and bonnie thunders is my top two.


9. What is your most memorable derby moment?
When I won MVJ after one of our all stars bouts. Not only was it my first in over a year. It my first since playing on and against higher level teams.

BIRTHDAY SHOUT OUT! Please join us in wishing #204, VBomb a very happy birthday! V has made her presence known in WV roller derby playing on WV All-Stars as well as CVRG's All Star team and most recently with the new WVRD! Regardless of jamming, blocking or pivoting...she's a huge threat to the opposition and is one of the nicest people that'll ever hit the crap out of you ❤️

Our very own Liz Vicious spoke wonderfully this evening to a packed crowd at Three Things in Charleston about her roller derby beginnings, the origin of CVRG, our league evolution, and the future of West Virginia Roller Derby!! We are so proud of you and stoked about what is to come!
