Adopt a Wood Duck Nesting Box

Adopt a Wood Duck Nesting Box 1000's of wood duck nesting boxes have been erected throughout South Carolina's public waterways over the years, many have been neglected and not maintained.

I encourage folks to do what they can to find and rehabilitate these old nesting boxes.

This is why it’s important to consider the location of your duck boxes in relation to river floodwaters.

Saw this orphan out on open water yesterday evening. Doubt it made it through the night. Nature can be tough.

I knew a hen was sitting hard on her eggs in this box last week. When I drove by and saw a pair standing on the roof of the box. I had to stop and see what's up.

A minor scuffle ensued inside the box and out jumped a hen Wood Duck with the winner still inside the box! She's peeking out the box opening.

I cleaned out the box that was full of ducklings Friday. Anyone that knows my work with Wood Ducks knows I’m not fond of Blue Herons. They are opportunistic feeders and will predate ducklings.

Nesting box is all cleaned out and ready for a second batch!
