Most of the calories you burn every day have nothing to do with your workouts.
Researchers call it NEAT: non-exercise activity thermogenesis. It's everything you do outside of structured exercise.
Studies show it can vary by up to 2,000 calories per day between two people of similar size.
That's why two people can follow the same plan and get different results. And why someone who works out hard but is sedentary the rest of the day can still feel stalled in their progress.
The fix: start looking for opportunities to move more throughout your day.
✅ Take the stairs
✅ Add a daily walk
✅ Stand or pace during phone calls
✅ Get up and move every hour
✅ Find an active hobby instead of watching TV
The benefits go way beyond fat loss. More daily movement means better blood sugar, stronger immunity, better mood, better bone density, and one of the strongest predictors of healthy aging.

Nutshell: move more during your workouts AND all day long.

For years we were taught that a calorie is a calorie, but researchers are finding that's not the whole story.

There's a growing field called chrononutrition, which is the study of how WHEN you eat affects how your body processes food.

Bottom line: the same meal eaten at night will be processed differently than it would be if you ate it in the morning.

By different, I mean the meal eaten later can lead to:
❌ Lower calorie burn
❌ Increased fat storage
❌ Reduced insulin sensitivity

Your metabolism follows a cycle tied to light, sleep, and your internal clock. Earlier in the day, your body burns more calories processing food. By evening, that process slows down.

3 simple ways to use this:
✅ Eat a real breakfast that includes protein
✅ Make lunch count — don't let it be an afterthought
✅ Keep evening meals lighter when you can

Save this and follow along for more back-to-basics strategies for folks over 40 who want to drop a few pounds and get their energy back.

If you have belly fat that just won't budge...
It might not be what you think.

It could come down to things like:
✅ How your body is handling stress day to day
✅ Whether you're recovering from your workouts
✅ How your sleep is affecting your hormones
✅ How your nutrition is structured overall

When those aren't dialed in, your body holds onto fat... especially around your belly.

But when you learn what's actually causing it, you can start making real progress.

We put together a free guide called the Belly Buster Plan that breaks it all down into four clear steps that you can start doing today!

One of the things I’ve been thinking about a lot since finishing cancer treatment is how I want to nourish my body moving forward. ❤️

For a whole year, my life revolved around cancer treatment — chemo, surgery, radiation, appointments, scans, bloodwork…you name it.

And something that honestly still shocks me is that not once did a medical professional ask me about my nutrition.

Not what I was eating.
Not whether I was getting enough protein.
Not whether I was getting enough fruits and vegetables.
Not how I was supporting my body nutritionally through treatment or recovery.

Knowing how important good nutrition is for maintaining strength, supporting the body through treatment, recovery, and overall health, I found that really surprising.

So it solidified for me that great nutrition was something I needed to conquer for myself- both during treatment , and now that active treatment is behind me.

Often, nutrition is pretty focused on numbers — calories, protein, macros, etc. And those things definitely have their place. But lately, my focus has shifted a bit.

I’m thinking much more about what I can ADD.

More fruits. More vegetables. More colors. More variety. More high quality protein, and more foods that are actually packed with nutrients.

This shift just FEELS healthier.

I’ve been trying to get as many different fruits and vegetables into my day as I can.

There’s something pretty amazing about the variety of nutrients, fiber, and plant compounds we get from eating lots of different plants. And all that different fiber is also food for the trillions of little microbes living in our gut. A healthy, diverse gut microbiome is important for digestion, immune function, metabolism, and overall health.

And this isn't just a “post-cancer” thing. All of us can benefit from eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables.

Also - there is just something beautiful about a plate filled with greens, reds, oranges, purples, yellows and berries of every color. 🌈

It makes healthy food feel abundant instead of restrictive.

When I can, I choose fresh and organic. But I’m also trying not to get caught up in making everything perfect. Sometimes fresh isn't available. Sometimes organic isn't in the budget. Sometimes life is just life.

So I choose the healthiest option I can and move on.

More nourishment.
More variety.
More color.
More plants.

I’m incredibly grateful to be cancer free, and I’m also celebrating the fact that there are simple things we can all do every day to take better care of ourselves.

For me, right now, that means nourishing my body, filling my plate with color and variety, and taking care of myself the best way I know how. 💚

It's not just what you eat. It's when.
Research on chrononutrition shows that eating the same calories later in the day, especially at night, can result in lower calorie burn, increased fat storage, and reduced insulin sensitivity compared to eating earlier.
Your metabolism has a daily cycle, and when you work with it, you give your body a real advantage.
👉 3 ways to start today:
✅ Eat a real breakfast that includes all the food groups
✅ Don't let lunch be an afterthought — your metabolism is still strong at this time of day
✅ Keep evening meals lighter when you can
