“Hunter” 15.2h chestnut gelding Arab/QH cross.

Hunter is proudly up for consideration. He does best in a consistent riding routine and tries hard. He can be slightly forward to the fences, not for a beginner rider. When not ridden regularly he can be a little spicy but settles quickly with a good lunge. He Has show miles up to 2’6. Has shown in both local hunters and jumpers. He prefers the jumper ring as he doesn’t love cantering in large groups. He is currently being used in a busy lesson program and does well. Barefoot, easy keeper, clips, ties, loads well. Can live in or out. Priced to sell low fours as we want to find him a great home before we move out of state.

6/1/2004-8/1/2023 CRF Lori.

Today is a hard day. Lori was the kindest sweetest pony. Easy to handle and well loved by everyone that had ever met her. She taught so many children and adults to ride, she was truly one in a million and will be forever missed. We are so grateful to Adrianna and Mario and all of Cross Ridge Farms for sharing her with us for all of these years.

For your consideration :

1. Up and Up “Theo”: is a 17.0h chestnut TB gelding. Straight forward under saddle with a great lead change. He would make an excellent LESSON HORSE. Theo is lowest on the totem pole in a herd, and does best in a field with like minded geldings. Theo has shown jumpers, hunters, and equitation up to 3ft at the local and C rated levels. He has also done several natural horsemanship clinics and dressage clinics. He does require some prep at horse shows due to trailering anxiety. He would love to find a person or program who wants to keep him in a regular, consistent program. Located in Chapel Hill, NC. mid 🥕🥕🥕🥕 negotiable to perfect home. Very reasonable off-site L options available as well.

2. CRF Ruben: 15.3hh dark bay 2013 gelding. The sweetest most laid back gelding. Same horses on and off property, no prep. Has show experience in walk/trot and rookie 4-H division. Can be Lazy under saddle. Green at the canter. Great dressage prospect! Prefers flatting over jumping. Doesn’t do anything bad, just trots the jumps rather than jumps them (see lazy above…) low 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕

3. Etch-A-Sketch: 2009 16.0hh chestnut mare with ALL the chrome! Sketcher has show experience up through 2’9 but has most recently been doing the x-rail-2ft job. Has a lead change when asked. She prefers a very soft and quiet rider who isn’t going to force her into a frame. She requires some prep at horse shows as she can get a little spicy. Does best in a regular program. Can live in a stall or outside. Currently in front shoes, goes best in 4 shoes if showing regularly. low 🥕🥕🥕🥕🥕

4. CRF The Last Juan 14.1 2012 chestnut gelding large project Pony. This pony is a back burner type. Ready to be finished your way. Gorgeous movement. Can be a little stubborn under saddle. 🥕🥕🥕🥕

5. CRF Robin Hood 2010 14.0 1/2 grey large project pony. Robin can be a little nervous and get quick in new situations. Low miles due to owner having too many ponies. Should finish to a really nice SS, children’s pony with more miles. 🥕🥕🥕🥕

Good information for keeping cool when it is hot outside!

COOL SCIENCE (pun intended)!

An old myth wants us to believe that horses should be walked until they cool completely after exercise, even in the summer. However, a study from 2020 looked at five different ways to cool a horse after exercise: walking, walking with fans, walking with intermittent cold water application, walking with intermittent cold water application and scraping, and stationary with continuous tap water application. As it turns out, the method that resulted in the quickest return to normal body temperature was stationary with continuous tap water application (2 minutes), while walking alone took the longest time for recovery (25 minutes).

Bottom line: enjoy your rides in the sun this summer but remain vigilant for signs of heat stress in your horse. If they look tired, it’s time for a drink, a cool bath, and a break in the shade.

NC 4-H State Horse Show 2023 is a Wrap!

Early mornings, late nights, scorching heat, torrential downpours, and everything in between was not enough to damper these kid’s enthusiasm. All the hard work they have been putting in paid off and we are so proud of the teamwork and sportsmanship that was displayed all week!

A huge thank you to the parents and families for supporting your children and helping to make this show a success.

Everyone came and had a blast, lots of endless laughter and entertainment. Goals were met and surpassed with flying colors.

Now we rest.

A must read on progress and the stages of learning!

This is probably the most popular article I’ve ever written. 👇 👇👇

https://buff.ly/3NsIcLD

I think it’s such an important concept to know and remind yourself of when you’re not making as much progress as you want. Holds true for every person learning any skill, and it’s something I’m trying to teach my kids from an early age. Doesn’t it just suck that we can’t be *awesome* at something when we first try it?! 😜 (Or even when we’ve been trying for a long time…)

Basic idea 💡- there are 4 states of learning
1. Unconscious Incompetence - you don’t know that you don’t know (aka clueless)
2. Conscious Incompetence- you know what you’d like to do, but you can’t do it 😩
3. Conscious Competence - you can do it, if you think *really* hard about it.
4. Unconscious Competence - you can just do the thing, and you don’t have to think about how to do it.

We all want to skip over step 2. It’s so painful. No one likes Step 2. 🤣 Read much more in the article.

Super late post but we had so much fun at the Grace Lee Farm June Show! There was such great hospitality and judging! All of the horses and riders did a fantastic job showing off all the hard work that they have been doing at home!

Rose and CRF Teddy improved greatly from the last show and got 2 seconds in the P*e Wee Hunters.

Ellie and Evans Constantine worked together to earn Reserve Champion of the P*e Wee Hunters.

Alex and My Friend Casper had really great classes and good ribbons in the P*e Wee Hunters

Sophia C and My friend Casper tested out the waters in the little jumpers, and improved each round. They also competed to great ribbons in the Long Stirrup Division.

Sofia Y and Evans Constantine laid down solid trips in all of their classes and were Reserve Champion in BOTH puddle jumpers and the open hunters.

Anastasia and My Fair Lady were Champion of the little jumpers and Reserve Champion of the Long Stirrup division.
