Hello fellow scuba divers! We’re going to introduce you to your club officers with some bio posts to help you get more familiar with the club before we kick off meetings this semester.

First up is Peyton Whisnant, Scuba Club President.

“I am a senior history major from Wilmington, NC. When not at UNC, I work as a Master Scuba Diver Trainer at Aquatic Safaris Scuba Center in Wrightsville Beach, NC. My favorite place to go diving has to be the Megalodon Tooth ledges that are found offshore Wrightsville Beach. I also enjoy spearfishing.”

Everyone give a warm welcome to Jacob Pearson one of our Dive Resource Officers for the year! Jacob is a Sophmore who is interested in Business School and a Spanish professions minor. Jacob is a member of the National Residence Hall Honorary and is a Study Abroad Peer Ambassador. When he is not in a class, he loves hanging out outside and watching movies with his friends. He initially became interested in diving when an opportunity arose to become certified through his Boy Scout troop and he has been hooked ever since! He has gotten many great opportunities to travel the world and go diving, including the Caribbean and the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Australia.

Meet Amy Lawson our events coordinator! Amy started diving to learn more about the ocean's fascinating ecosystems. Her favorite place to dive is Palancar Gardens in Cozumel, Mexico with its amazing fish, sea turtles, arches, and coral formations! She loves to dive because it helps her spread awareness and go on adventures into a unique place. She is still not sure what she wants to do when she graduates but is considering dental school or scientific research.
A fun fact about Amy is that she has done both scuba diving and 1-meter springboard diving!

Everyone meet Arianna Torello one of our Event Coordinators! Arianna is a senior from Wilmington, North Carolina. She is majoring in Environmental Science with a concentration in Ecology and Natural Resources and a minor in Marine Sciences. When she's not in class, she enjoys arts and crafts, water and snow sports, backpacking, and writing letters to her friends/family. She is also in the Loreleis, an all-female a ca****la group on campus, and that takes up a big chunk of her heart and time. Arianna is now a certified PADI Advanced Open Water Diver, but she was originally certified during her first-year here on campus through class with our Faculty Advisor, Greg Moore!

Everyone meet your UNCCH Scuba Club contact coordinator Ashley Byrd! Ashley was certified through PADI and began diving when she was 15, inspired by her dad who was a dive instructor. Her favorite place to dive is Bonaire and she hopes to become a marine-life veterinarian!

Meet your 2019-2020 UNC-CH Scuba Club leadership team! We're so happy to introduce you to our president, Jackson Seymore, vice presidents Peyton Whisnant and Allison Duprey, treasurer Kay Youngstrom, secretary Rainey Dunham, contacts coordinator Ashley Byrd, event coordinators Ariana Torello and Amy Lawson, dive resource officers Jacob Pearson and Alex Reulbach, and club advisor Greg Moore. Were so exited for what the scuba club has in store for this year!
