The Origin of “Cheng Ming”
“Cheng (誠)” – Cultivating the Self through Sincere Practice
“Ming (明)” – Enlightening the Mind through Uprightness
Our Grandmaster adopted the two characters Cheng and Ming as guiding principles for self-cultivation and moral refinement, hoping that future disciples would uphold these teachings as their lifelong motto.
With unwavering determination, diligent and disciplined training, careful analysis of the authenticity and practical value of forms, and refinement of graceful body movement, we strive to preserve and pass down our art for generations to come, promoting and honoring the legacy of the Zhongnan School.
Practitioners must clearly understand the proper application of physical strength, comprehend the distinctions between internal and external training, and constantly affirm their own progress. One must thoroughly understand the classifications and principles of the art, even when reaching periods of stagnation. Self-indulgence must not be tolerated; rather, one must continually discipline and challenge oneself in pursuit of the highest level of mastery.
The Meaning of the Emblem
The characters “Zhongnan (終南)” represent that Cheng Ming belongs to the Zhongnan martial lineage.
The central circle symbolizes Tai Chi (Taijiquan).
The five surrounding circles represent the Five Elements of Xingyi Quan:
Pi (Metal)
Zuan (Water)
Beng (Wood)
Pao (Fire)
Heng (Earth)
The outer three concentric circles represent Bagua Zhang, symbolizing the Three Lines — Heaven, Earth, and Humanity — from which the Eight Trigrams are formed.
Tai Chi, the Five Elements, and the Eight Trigrams are among the most profound and precious treasures of Chinese culture. All phenomena in the universe are deeply interconnected with these principles.
The Chinese Martial Arts International Cheng Ming Federation primarily teaches three major internal martial arts systems — Taijiquan, Xingyi Quan (Five Elements), and Bagua Zhang — along with their corresponding weapons applications.
