US Hwa Rang Kwan Kumdo The US Hwa Rang Kwan Kumdo is dedicated to promoting and teaching Kumdo, the Korean martial art centered on swordsmanship.

US Hwa Rang Kwan Kumdo is a martial arts school dedicated to promoting and teaching Kumdo in the Washington DC metropolitan area. US Hwa Rang Kwan has locations in Fairfax, Virginia and Columbia, Maryland.A direct translation of “Kumdo” is “way of the sword.” This Korean martial art has been described by some as oriental fencing. With large bamboo swords, loud yelling and protective armor, Kumdo consists of a generous amount of fast-paced full-contact sword fighting. The use of full body armor allows for safe practice, minimal injuries and and maximum burning of calories. Our martial arts establishment offers classes for students 7 years and older. Our focus is not on self defence, but instead on self development through spiritual maturity, inner strength, calmness of the soul and pure heart. These principles combined with speed and strength are the “essence” of Kumdo.US Hwa Rang Kwan is affiliated with and certified by the Korea Kumdo Association on the area, and also affiliated with GWMKF (Greater Washington Metropolitan Kumdo Federation), a subdivision of Korea Kumdo Association. Our mission is to promote and teach the highest level of Kumdo in the Washington DC area.
Sparring session between Master Jang Soon-chil and Master Kim Soo-young. ⚔️
There is over a 20-year age gap between them, but watching them move, you can’t even tell who is who! 🤯
Being able to cross swords and push each other to the limit regardless of age—this is the true beauty of Kumdo. Huge respect to both Masters! 🔥

항상 직접 땀 흘리며 모범을 보여주시는 열정, 오늘도 존경합니다! 🥋

This week’s video feels incredibly special! 🎥
Even at over 60 years old, our Master personally put on the armor and sparred with every single student. 🥋 We are deeply humbled and inspired by his incredible energy and passion, bringing out 100% of everyone's potential with unmatched attention to detail. 💪
Experience his next-level coaching, proven not by words, but by sweat! We always welcome those who want to sweat, learn, and grow together.
