The wait is starting to pay off!
Several new and improved spaces at City Center Park are now open for residents to enjoy as work continues on the rest of the park.
Residents can now check out the park’s new playground, pickleball courts and refreshed skate park, giving families and visitors an early chance to enjoy the transformed downtown space.
A few features are still being completed. The splash pad is not yet open. The lights for nighttime play on the pickleball courts are not yet operational. Landscaping and other finishing work also will continue throughout the park. We’ve also heard some questions about shade at the new playground. As an outdoor play space, the playground will naturally receive plenty of sun, especially during the middle of the day. Trees planted around the playground will provide increasing shade as they grow and mature in the years ahead. For a shady break, visitors can also use the nearby outdoor living room under the large canopy just north of the park building, or cool off inside the park building, City Hall or the library during open hours.
This partial opening is just the beginning. Additional features will continue to come online as construction progresses, bringing Chanhassen closer to the full vision for a vibrant City Center Park where residents can play, gather and spend time together.
We’re excited to see residents begin making this new space their own and appreciate everyone’s patience as the final pieces come together.
