To me, this quote from Yogananda reminds me that kindness is not only
something we offer to others; it is something we must also offer ourselves. In the most difficult moments of life, especially when our hearts are breaking, it can be easy to become overwhelmed by pain, self-doubt, or despair. But when I choose to meet myself with kindness and compassion, I create a small space for hope to remain.
Kindness can become that small ember of light we carry through the darkness. It may not take away the pain or immediately change our circumstances, but it gently reminds us that we are worthy of love and tenderness, even in our hardest moments. Sometimes, simply being kind to ourselves is what helps us take the next step forward. In that way, kindness becomes a quiet light that guides us through the darkness until we can find our way back to hope.
