Have you ever hit what felt like a good pitch shot, only to watch the ball strike the face of an elevated green and roll back toward you?

Your swing may not be the problem. You may simply be aiming too low.

In my latest video, I explain how the slope can change your visual target and why matching your eyes to that slope can help you finish on the green instead of at the bottom of the hill. I’ll also show you what happens when I use the flag as my target and commit to aiming higher.

This is a simple short-game adjustment that can help golfers of every skill level create more par opportunities.

Where do you usually aim when the flag is above you?

Have you ever aimed farther right trying to hit a draw, only to watch the ball curve even farther right?

Your setup may be working against you.

In this week’s video, I explain three small adjustments that can change your ball flight without forcing you to rebuild your golf swing:

• Ball position
• Top-hand grip
• Driver tee height

You do not need to move the ball several inches or dramatically change your alignment. Sometimes, moving the ball one dimple or slightly adjusting your tee height is enough.

Here is a challenge for your next round: Track your scores on the par 3s and par 5s separately.

These eight holes may be affecting your final score more than you realize. Many recreational golfers become too aggressive on par 3s and fail to take advantage of the opportunities available on par 5s.

I explain why these holes deserve their own category in my recent GOLF.com article:

https://golf.com/instruction/four-golf-stats-pay-attention-shoot-lower-scores/

After your round, answer this question: How many shots did you lose to par on the par 3s and par 5s?

If that number surprises you, customized coaching can help you improve both your skills and your on-course decisions:

GOLF Teacher to Watch John Hughes recommends keeping track of four key stats to help yourself shoot lower scores.

Struggling to judge how hard to hit a putt?
Look at the hole — not the ball — while you take your practice strokes and let your body do the calibrating.
