Night 6 of Higher Goal Ministries -CPHC March 26th 2024

The Last game of the regular season paired Black team vs Gold team. The game was close early on but Gold pulled away from black in the end to secure a share of 1st place in the league. In the second game of the evening Blue team continued it's winning streak to 4 games which ended their season with a share of first place with Gold team. The rest of Blue team had at least 4 points a piece leading to outcome.

Dwayne Eissens delivered the message which included monitoring your peers and that if you have a weakness in an area that it's good to stay away from groups of people that could potentially feed that weakness. Surround yourself with uplifting people.

Night 5 of Higher Goal Ministries -CPHC 3-19-2024

In game one of the night Gold team played Green in what proved to be one of the best games of the season thus far. Gold team and Green battled the entire game till the end of regulation. Both teams were tied headed into overtime. In overtime both teams seemed to be deadlocked again with Chris Pridgen and Chandler Merritt hitting crucial 3 pointers down the stretch. Coach Luke Nance hit his free throws to put Gold in the positive at the end of the game. Sawyer Strickland hit a couple of free throws down the stretch to put the game within reach. Down 2 points with roughly 12 seconds on the clock Gold double teamed Mason Hewitt which forced him to give up the ball to a wide open Andrew Jones at the elbow. As the clock expired Andrews dead on shot did not fall as it bounced on the rim 4 times to almost win the game for Green. The final score was 56-55 in favor of Gold. Gold players leading in scoring were Chris Pridgen (12), Chandler Merritt (12), and Luke Nance (11). Green team leaders were Mason Hewitt with a sizzling 21 points including 4 three-pointers, Coach Jacob Young (10), and Sawyer Strickland (10).

In the second game of the night Blue team started hot and finished hot outscoring Black team by 22 points. The final score was 55-33. Blue team was able to win the rebounding battle and played a solid defensive game which didn't give Black too many open looks. Everyone on the Blue team made the scoring column and contributed to make the game a team effort. Black team which normally gets a lot of points from their 3 point shooting had an off night and was only able to connect on three 3-point baskets. They look to bounce back next week against a Gold team they they match up well against. Leaders for Black team were Isaac Ward with 10 points, Corey Sykes with 6 points, and Matt Pridgen with 5. Blue team leaders were Chris Mayo with 13 points, Jamie Mishue with 9 points, and Trey Stevens/Parks Godwin both chipping in 8 points a piece.

Matt Gore did the devotional on how God sees us all the time, just as he saw the disciple Nathanael by the tree and saw Adam behind the fig tree. God sees us at our best and our worst. He's always there for us to share our burdens and successes with. We only need to seek him and he will meet us where we are at.

Week 4 of Higher Goal Basketball

3-12-2024. Gold vs. Blue

For the first game of the night Blue was able to hold on to a hard fought lead which was in doubt at the end of the game to secure a 44-42 victory. At the end of regulation the game was tied and blue team had a chance for the last shot but heavy contact forced a turnover for Blue. Gold team got the ball back with a little over 2 seconds to end the game and the three point attempt proved unsuccessful. Going into overtime Blue team had one player(Chris Mayo) fouled out and one(Dakota Piver) with 4 fouls. Gold team had one player(Eman Kasatati) with four fouls and he unfortunately picked up his 5th foul in overtime. Blue team led by 3 points with 10 seconds left and Jackson Cook cut the lead to 1. Blue struggled to get the ball in, but got it to Matt Gore with 3 seconds on the clock. Matt hit the first free throw and then missed the second which led to a scramble for the rebound and ended the game. Leading scorers for the Gold team were Coach Luke Nance with 9 points, Timmy Stroud with 8 points including hitting two crucial free throws down the stretch, and Aaron Izzo with 7 points. Leaders for Blue team were Chris Mayo with 13 points, Jamie Mishue with 9 points, and Trey Stevens with 8 points.

Game 2 of the night put Black (home) vs Green team. Black led early in the game and finished the half leading 30-15. Green came into the second half being aggressive offensively and it produced a close game well into the fourth quarter. At one juncture of the game it was 39-34 in favor of Black. When the time was getting short Green had to start fouling and Black was able to convert on most of their free throws. Leading the way for Black teams was Jay Wright using his screens nicely to shoot and score a smooth 12 points. Isaac Ward and Will Edwards were also able to score 8 points a piece. Final score was 43-36 in favor of Black.

Night 3 at Higher Goal Ministries -CPHC. 3/5/2024

Game 1- Blue vs. Green. Final score was 49-41.
Blue tried to slow down the red hot Mason Hewett(Green) by playing him in a box and 1 style defense. It proved effective and Hewett scored just 4 points in the first half(well below his average.) He scored 8 in the second half making it a very respectable 12 for the game. Other scorers for Green were Anthony "Big Country" Reaves with 9, and Coach Jacob Young with 7. The shooting whoas for Blue did not happen in this game as Chris Mayo hit a sizzling 4 three pointers which helped to make him the leading scorer for the game with 16. Jamie Mishue held at his season scoring mark with 12 and Coach Matt Gore added 7 for the Blue team. This broke streaks for both teams.....the 2 game win streak for Green and the 2 game losing streak for Blue.

In game 2 of the night Gold held of Black for 42-36 victory.
It was a physical game in it's entirety which led to slim scoring chances in the paint for either team. The score stayed pretty close the entire game and gold overcame black with a community effort in the scoring column. Chandler Merritt led the charge with 10 points, Colin Shaw had 7 points, and Aaron Izzo chipped in two three pointers. The Black team seemed to lack the flow they were accustomed to on offense this night with Isaac Ward scoring 7 points, Jay Wright scoring 7 points, and Zach Baxley leading the way with three triples and 9 points.

Green team 2-1
Gold team 2-1
Black team 1-2
Blue team 1-2

Pastor Chris Nobles brought the word providing a great visual of a football player almost scoring a touchdown and then compared it to a person being an "almost" Christian. We all want to make it into glory and we never know how long we may have on this earth so it's important that we strive to be a full time Christian in our walk with the Lord.

Second Night 2-27-24 at Higher Goal Ministries -CPHC

Black played Blue for the first game of the night with the result being in Blacks favor. The final was 44-38. Black led from the second quarter on to the end of the game and never led by more than 10 points. Blue tried to claw it's way back into the game but the Black team was too strong down the stretch. Leaders for Coach Travis Hilburn's Black team were Isaac Ward with 11, Jay Wright with 10 and Will Edwards with 8 points. An amazing thing about Will's night is he didn't make a fg and scored all 8 of his points from the line proving that Free Throw practice does matter! The Blue team leaders were Jamie Mishue with 10, Dakota Piver/Chris Mayo with 8 a piece.

The Second game of the night proved to be a thriller. Gold was down double digits early but was able to come back and tie the game in the final quarter. Eventually Green pulled away and won 56-52. Leaders for the Gold team were Eman Kasitati with 10, and Coach Luke Nance with 9. Leading the way for Green was Mason Hewitt with a smoking 26 points with 4 of those shots being 3 pointers. Pastor Jacob with 11 looking like a speedy Gonzalez on the court. Sharp shooter Timmy Gore chipped in 8 points. Those two have the Scottie Pippen/Jordan Vibes going as they are the duo with the most points per game average thus far.

Pastor Jacob brought the Word.

Side note- Timmy Stroud put his shirt on backward again.
