Since our inaugural season in 2006, Centreville United Methodist Church (CUMC) Upward Sports continues to be a Christ-centered community outreach ministry that aims to provide the Best Sports Experience for 500+ participants every year. We offer basketball to boys and girls from K5 through 6th grade and cheerleading to girls from 1st-4th grade. You do not have to be a member of CUMC to register as

a participant or to serve as a volunteer in this outreach ministry. All CUMC Upward Sports events take place at the CUMC Recreation and Outreach Center (ROC) on the north end of the CUMC campus. Registration is all online and usually begins around the 1st of September for the season that runs January-March. Christ remains the center of all we do throughout the season. In keeping with this, our practices include time out for coach-led devotions and all our games begin with a referee-led prayer. Every child receives equal playing time across the course of the season and while the games are competitive, we retain an emphasis on having fun and developing skills by not keeping score in the Kindergarten and 1st-2nd grade divisions and by not keeping team standings in any of the divisions. Each game begins with player introductions complete with NBA-style music, streamers, fog machine and occasional appearances by our 7-foot lion mascot, Uproar. Teams gather in Sunday school (locker) rooms after games where each player and cheerleader earns an award for their game performance. The season culminates in late March with a celebration ceremony complete with entertainment, a season highlights video and an end-of-season award for each player and cheerleader. Centreville UMC is located on 6400 Old Centreville Rd in Centreville, VA 20121.

While we are currently accepting registrations for the 2025 basketball season, we are excited to announce the purchase, assembly and installation of our new basketball hoops at The ROC. Recently delivered to The ROC at the Centreville United Methodist Church, the First Team Rampage III Portable Basketball Goals feature a 54 inch Acrylic Backboard and royal padding with an adjustable height. We are excited to get the season underway and we encourage you to register your player for the 2025 season as we are nearing maximum capacity. Registration closes on Oct. 1, 2024.

Registration for Centreville Upward Basketball opened on Sunday and we're almost halfway to capacity. If you plan to have your child participate in Upward Basketball this season, it's a good idea to register today to reserve your spot.
