Corsica River Yacht Club

Corsica River Yacht Club Sailing Club focused on promoting sailing and seamanship in Queen Anne's County and throughout the Eastern Shore

Recorded on the walls of a decrepit boathouse on Emory Cove is a history of regattas with the dates and names of the victorious and their boats dating from 1899. This small group of youths comprised what was then known as the "Corsica Yacht Club," the precursor to the present day CRYC. A yacht club reminiscent of "Spanky and Our Gang," it was created by local youths to provide a bit of racing fun

on the Corsica River. We have continued in that tradition: a club of selfless volunteers, many of whom were CRYC youths, dedicated to making the sailing experience available to the youth of Queen Anne's County. Between the C*C and CRYC, over a hundred years of youth sailing has taken place on Spaniard's Neck; and we've done it without a club house, but not without so many old and new families and friends!

Thursday Night Racing kicked off last night. Two Windmills and two Comets took to the water and had a lovely sail to R2 and back. Despite the light air, the fleet was able to keep moving on the Corsica River with all the sailors having an enjoyable experience on the river.
Thanks to the excellent RC work provided by Lance on the CRYC Whaler.
Roy with a ghost of a crew, had a good start and led the fleet around the 2-NM course. Rowen, sailing with wife Christine, was able to pass Erik with his crew Christian on the long windward beat to R2 to place second, following them was John with crew Kevin closing out the group for the evening.
After sailing there was a nice time spent swapping stories and having libations as the boats were packed up for the night.
Hope to see more boats next week.

This Thursday looks to be a perfect night to go sailing at Corsica River. I know that a few boats are planning on sailing but there is always room for more.
The RC is ready, Lance has agreed to do the starts and finishes, so Roy will be sailing on Rose. I hope to see lots of sailors out there. There are 2 420’s available as well as Comet’s looking for crew so come on down if you want to sail or just join in on the fun. Hope to see you all.

The first Thursday night race is set for today. So far, the rain looks like it will be coming in after we get off the water, and the wind looks ideal for a quick race. I am planning on having a race, so I hope the rest of you are coming to sail. I will be putting out marks and getting ready for you all starting around 3:30 and will keep a eye on the weather but as of now we are a go. Thanks, Dave, for getting our committee boat painted and turned right side up so we can launch it later today. See you on the water
