On June 19th, 1865; General Gordon Granger issued General Order 3:
"The people of Texas are informed that in accordance with a Proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection therefore existing between them becomes that between employer and free laborer."
On that day, nearly 250,000 enslaved people were finally declared free.
Whatever your political affiliation, whatever your view of America; we all should agree that the enslavement of a people is wrong. Juneteenth has been politicized and made into a left and right issue. It shouldn't be. It should be the celebration of the end of one of our country's greatest sins, and the start of a new beginning.
To all Americans, Happy Jubilee Day, Happy Juneteenth. Let us celebrate the day our country cried that freedom belongs to all Americans regardless of race, creed, or culture.
