Extend Indy 500 Practice and Qualification Hours to 7:00PM Have time after work to see true Happy Hour speeds when the wind dies down and the track cools. We need to take advantage of DST What happened to happy hour?

The gun used to sound 2 hours before sundown when Indiana did NOT observe daylight saving time. Now that Indiana is on daylight savings time, the gun sounds 3 hours before sundown… before the wind dies down, the track cools, and the sun is lower in the sky. If we took advantage of Daylight Saving Time and IMS changed the gun to 7pm, we would not only have faster happy hour speeds, people would hav

e an extra hour after work to make it to the track and you would see a lot more people think it is worthwhile to head to the track after work. Also, IMS would see higher concession sales during the dinner hour.

Well we have scored a victory... Sunday Qualifications lasted to 7:00 PM.

We are going to do a push for practice to keep open until 7 PM. Let me know if you still support it.

Two years ago, they tried one day, a Monday - opening day for the oval to keep the cars running until 7 PM. Of course not that many people knew about it. For it to be successful, it must be a consistent policy....

If it ain't raining they will be running until 7 PM, everyday and it must be advertised but it still make several Mays to retrain the fans that they can come to the track after work and still have hours of running at the fastest speeds of the day.

There is a major change in how the crowds watch the race. Because of the new Giant HD TV screens, people along the front stretch reacted with Owwws and Ahhhs at the action around the track they could not see from their seats. Most would look at the screen except when the cars were right in front of them. This is the first time this has happened... those screens are great.

Make sure your seats have a good line of sight to one of the big screens. My seats were low so the crowd blocked my view of the corners but thanks to the Big Screens - I enjoyed the race. Next year, I am sitting in one of the corners - damn the hot sun... I will train for the heat and take rain gear if necessary but it will have a good view of a Big Screen too.

Today is FAST FRIDAY... The cars get extra boost and we may be setting some 21st century speed records.

The gun will sound at 6:00 PM when there is still 3 hours of daylight left. Speeds would be faster if they kept the track green until 7:00 PM... Lets hope they see the light next year.
