Bittersweet news from today’s Girls Sectional Tournament at Poelking Woodman lanes. Only 10 of 24 teams could qualify for next week’s SW District Tournament and the top 10 individuals from remaining non-qualifying teams. The format was three team games followed by six Baker games, with total pinfall determining qualifiers.

Similar to yesterday’s boys tournament, after Game 1 (691) the Lady Aviators found themselves at 13th Place, 59 pins below the cut line. Game 2 saw Butler advance to 12th, but found themselves now 92 pins below the cut. Game 3 our ladies booked a nice 753 game and clawed up to 11th and 29 pins below the cut.

Bakers did not provide much relief with Butler finding itself -40 going into the final Baker game. While the ladies showed true grit by posting their best Baker of the day (173), git was one shot short. The Lady Aviators closed their season needing 5 more pins to advance.

HOWEVER, on the positive side, Senior Liza Koewler finished 8th overall out of the field of 180+ bowlers as an individual District qualifier!

So Butler will send the entire boys squad and Liza Koewler to next week’s boys and girls SW District tournaments for a shot at advancing to State!
